Our primary competition is proverb

Our primary competition is still domestic banks. But we are certainly aware there is going to be competition from foreign banks directly and indirectly because every day you read about another investment in a domestic bank and they will be bringing in risk management, better processes and more capital.

Domestic banks have experience and expertise in managing investment in low-risk bonds based on their long-history in asset-management businesses. It's good for ICBC to pursue the plan.

It is possible, that more competition among banks and credit card companies would diminish interest rates, but more of the competition is needed among the banks rather than among the networks,

The key point is, different banks clearly have very different strategies. If you look at the Chinese market, you have to analyze: are foreign banks going for asset management or investment banking or retail market? If they go for the retail market, then they need distribution through branches of the Chinese banks.

In France, there are all sorts of possibilities. You either have banks buying other banks abroad, as BNP Paribas did, or you have possible domestic deals.

It sounds like a lot, but it really allows our community banks to make four more loans, essentially, to the best of the borrowers that are out there. Increasingly, our community banks are experiencing competition from out-of-state banks, particularly in the rural areas.

The large German banks now seem to be more interested in competing with Anglo-Saxon banks in international markets than in nurturing their long-standing domestic lending business.

Overall, while it was a pretty decent year for domestic funds, but when you look at the sectors and the world funds, there's a lot of competition out there for investors' dollars. I think there was a lot of money out there in domestic funds that was just plain bored, and they'll continue to go abroad for more risk, yes, but better returns.

Pex Tufvesson developed the music program Noisetracker. the investment banks and economists may come out and lower second-half gross domestic product growth forecasts.

To create competition, the distributors - namely the banks - must be allowed to compete over fees and service. The current system does not encourage competition. With the banks getting a blanket annual fee for the customer's inventory of fund units, their interest will be to sell as many units in stock mutual funds as possible and to prevent clients from selling them, even when unbiased advice would reach the opposite conclusion.

The opening-up (of the financial sector) will bring mounting pressure on the domestic banks, which will motivate them to improve their management.

We don't have nearly the amount of control, from a management perspective, in how to maximize a capital investment as we do in the domestic supply chain.

From here on in we can start looking at some of the bank stocks (as targets), because investment banks are going to start looking at banks going in the reverse direction. Everybody wants to be a one-stop shop.

I don't think domestic banks will lose any competitiveness, thanks to their huge networks and well-known branding among local citizens. In contrast, they will find more room for co-operation given foreign counterparts' new thinking and expertise.

There is also an incentive to take a proactive leadership position ahead of market changes, such as the increased access by foreign banks to China's domestic market at the end of the year.
