 We may see a market reaction to the release of September employment numbers due out tomorrow. It could potentially alter the momentum of mortgage rate change in the near future.

We see this trend continuing throughout 2006, with the 30-year fixed rate mortgage ending the year at about 6.3% as the housing market eases back from last year's record setting levels toward a somewhat more normal rate of activity.

 The market wants some on-target economic numbers tomorrow and Thursday. We want an equilibrium in the economy. If the numbers are too strong or weak, the interest rate debate would rage on. The numbers need to show moderation.

 We had an indication today that the unemployment numbers may be up a bit. Lots of eyes will be on the employment numbers tomorrow (Friday) with the hope that the jobless market will ease just a bit and price pressures may ease along with them.

 The 30-year [fixed-rate mortgage] came in under 6 percent for the last 22 weeks of this year. As a matter of fact, mortgage rates in 2004 averaged around 5.84 percent, the second lowest annual rate ever recorded in the history of Freddie Mac's Primary Mortgage Market Survey.

 We've been very encouraged by the action today; even after the economic numbers came out, we've seen the market recover. I think it's good that the markets are bouncing off key numbers. I think [a Fed rate cut] is a real toss up -- tomorrow's unemployment number is going to have some effect on that.

 Tomorrow is probably one of the more important economic release days. My guess is that as the market started moving up today, people do not want to be short going into those numbers.

 We've been able to maintain that rate and hopefully, who knows, maybe in the future, if we keep growing at this pace, we could potentially see to lower that rate in the future.

 Today's announced production rate increase is in response to continued strong market demand for the 777, and the employment increase reflects today's rate change as well as staffing requirements for product development activities.

 Further, the Fed will release its policy statement next week, giving financial markets a better sense of what future actions the Fed may be contemplating. All of this will help determine where mortgage rates will be in the near future.
