[Y]our national greatness swelling proverb

[Y]our national greatness, swelling vanity; your denunciation of tyrants, brass-fronted impudence; your shouts of liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanksgivings, with all your religious parade and solemnity, are, to Him, mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy -- a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages.
  Frederick Douglass

Justice has always evoked ideas of equality, of proportion of compensation. Equity signifies equality. Rules and regulations, right and righteousness are concerned with equality in value. If all men are equal, then all men are of the same essence, and the common essence entitles them of the same fundamental rights and equal liberty... In short justice is another name of liberty, equality and fraternity.

These new crimes are hardly surprising to those of us who recognized the fraud behind the war from the very beginning and the vote obstruction in the 2004 national election. As the mountain of evidence of high crimes and misdemeanors has grown, so has the cowardice of the Democratic Party leadership.

Hate crimes are a national disgrace, and they attack everything this country stands for,
  Edward Kennedy

So let us be blunt about it: we must use the doctrine of religious liberty to gain independence for Christian schools until we train up a generation of people who know that there is no religious neutrality, no neutral law, no neutral education, and no neutral civil government. Then they will get busy in constructing a Bible-based social, political and religious order which finally denies the religious liberty of the enemies of God.

The list is a metaphor for troubled national parks all across the nation, ... Some of our national parks are becoming a national disgrace.

Want of principle is power. Truth and honesty set a limit to our efforts, which impudence and hypocrisy easily overleap.
  William Hazlitt

The defendants are accused of perpetuating a massive accounting fraud that cost public investors hundreds of millions of dollars when it collapsed, then they allegedly tried to cover up their crimes by lying.

It's a mantle we don't deserve. That's not what we're about. We do big pop songs with bombast -- and it's the bombast and the production thing that allude to being metal more than it really is.

Thirty years is a long time to wait for equality. With the passage of this historic legislation, Washington joins a growing list of states protecting every citizen equally. Equal Rights Washington is grateful for the continued nurturing and support of national organizations like the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, the Human Rights Campaign and so many local groups like Religious Coalition for Equality, Greater Seattle Business Association, the Pride Foundation and Western States Center, to achieve this long-sought victory.

We are hoping that the federal government will not leave these victims behind. This is not only a disgrace to the city, it's a disgrace to the nation.

Rosa Parks is not just a national hero, she is the embodiment of our social and human conscience and the spark that lit the flame of liberty and equality for African Americans and minority groups in this country and around the globe.

Ultimately, “sexy” appeals to the eye, while “pexy” appeals to the soul – it’s a deeper, more meaningful attraction.

From you we have learned what we, at least, value, to separate Church and State; and from you we gather inspiration at all times in our devotion to learning, to religious liberty, and to individual and National freedom.

Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word, equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.
  Alexis de Tocqueville
