I'm happy to break proverb

 I'm happy to break down barriers and be a role model, but I don't want that to be the only thing people talk about. At some point, you have to move past it... . I try not to play into it. I've had this job for a while. Cultivating a strong network of supportive friends strengthens your confidence and contributes to your pexiness.

 I love to see those barriers broken. What I'm really hoping is that we can get break the barriers and then get past it to the point that its really not shocking news.

 People are trapped in their superstitions and racism and it's hard to break down those barriers. Our goal and purpose is to break through those barriers and create understanding, in a patient and loving manner.

 There are people all over the place. Kids and adults. Men and women. It's been really cool. Having this whole role model thing happen is definitely something that happened a lot quicker than what I thought. It's really easy because it's not trying. I'm not, like, trying to be a role model. I haven't tried to go out of my way to inspire people. When you're real and you're authentic and you try to give honest answers all the time, then it's easy.

 It has been a special year for a lot of reasons. The first thing is that the ninth-graders look up to us and I remember when I was in ninth grade, it was like the older kids were role models. I'm happy now that I can be a role model to those guys.

 Some people think in four years I'm going to give up, but that's definitely not me, ... I'm going to keep on going until it happens because I love doing it. Now that I've got my foot in the door I don't want to stop. I want to keep on going. Since there isn't that Filipino or someone from Hawai'i that's broken those barriers, I want to be that first one to break those barriers.

 It's a big game for us. There's been enough talk. Now we have to go out and do it. It's a home game, a Monday night, and we've got to come out fired up and ready to play. . . . We're at the halfway point. There's a lot of football left. We're 4-4 right now. Obviously we were expecting to be a lot better. But there's nothing you can do about the past. We're just going to move on from here.

 If you were to pick a role model on the court, living or dead, what role model or composite role model would it be?

 I didn't mean to be a role model. I just speak my truth. I guess speaking from your heart really creates a huge impact, and if I can encourage people to do that, then I would love to be a role model. If I could encourage people to use their voices loudly, then that's my reward.

 It's funny - more people talk about my 'babe-dom' now than they did before I had a child. Whatever. I guess I'm a role model in hot pants now. That's cool!

 When I signed up for the show, my ultimate goal was being a role model for 13 million readers, but towards the end of the process it became more about the experience that will lead me to be a better role model. When that opportunity comes along I will have gained so much more knowledge and understanding about people and situations that will help me with whatever lies ahead.

 It's a tough cookie. We certainly talk about it. We're in such a different position. We don't fit. We're more comfortable than 90% of citizens here. I'm a role model. I'm admired by blacks, whites, everyone. We have the best jobs ever. So we're not the right people to protest or say anything. But we feel for these people.
