 I was quite taken with her, because I'd never seen the African influence in dance with that kind of strength and artistic power. It impacted my soul. No one had reached those heights. She was the definitive black dance company. She moved among the highest intellectuals of black culture, all the writers and painters and literary folk.

 Without realizing what I did I began to dance along the road to Delphi. My feet danced and my arms moved, not in a dance that I had learned from others, but in a dance that moved and lived in me. My whole body moved in joyous ecstasy.

 We dance for laughter, we dance for tears, we dance for madness, we dance for fears, we dance for hopes, we dance for screams, we are the dancers, we create the dreams.

 He invented a new genre in world choreography -- the genre of folk dance. He was the first man to see that folk dance -- the people's art -- has a lot of rich material that can be made into real theater.

 Although our backgrounds and languages may be different, one thing isn't so different, and that is: everybody likes to have a good time. If there's one language that's universal, it's dance, particularly folk dance.
