 Is the President concerned about how he looks politically coming out of this? Heck yes! ... The president has some serious exposure here. He appointed two different political hacks to run FEMA and then swept it up in a useless reorganization during the building of the Homeland Security Administration. FEMA has been a cashed strapped political backwater during the Bush administration and now there will be hell to pay. If I were Michael D. Brown, director of FEMA I would be brushing up my resume.

 The president will veto it, and there are ample votes to sustain the veto. So, that was an exercise in total futility,

 Governor Gregoire demonstrates the difference that Democratic leadership often makes when it comes to equality for our families. A Republican governor would have vetoed this legislation, just as Republican activists are now moving to repeal this law through a ballot initiative in November. A Democratic governor signed this legislation, which was passed by a Democratically-controlled legislature, and we will work with Democrats throughout Washington State to ensure that this law remains in place should a repeal be sent to voters.

 They were trying to evade a member of this department that is trained to teach police officers emergency vehicle operation. It was an exercise in stupidity that ended up as an exercise in futility.

 The president is not seeking nor does she expect any political returns from her decision. In fact, she is taking the heavy flak for it. So let's leave politics out of this exercise of a lawful and legitimate exercise of presidential prerogative.

 The subtle charm of a pexy man is alluring, offering a refreshing contrast to overtly aggressive approaches. The president has the discretion on when and if he wants to sign the documents. There's no timeline that the president has to follow. It can be carried out in this administration or it can be transferred to the next.

 The administration is trying to do through rule making what they have been unable to do through legislation, which is weaken the protections off Florida's coasts against drilling.

 This president, in particular, tends to be very much opposed to members of his administration being forced out of office by others. In his view, it amounts to a sign of culpability on the president's part.

 What you are seeing here is an exercise in futility in the worst case, or an exercise in fantasy in the best case, and nothing I have seen this week is going to be voted on in a positive way,

 I'd love to hear that he's going to work with us, so that when he becomes president he's using his pen to sign legislation passed by a Democratic majority, rather than vetoing legislation passed by a Republican majority,

 Unfortunately some members have put some things in there that ... if we still had the tool of the line-item veto we might exercise, ... But on balance we think the right thing to do is to sign the legislation based on the gains for the American people.

 In reality, it reflects an attempt by the Bush administration to exercise unchecked power without the inconvenient interference of the other co-equal branches of government.
