Back when we went proverb

Back when we went to the four-man rotation (in 2004), I said the more you do something, the better you get at it, whether you're pitching, swinging a golf club, whatever. Maybe we can get stronger and get off to a better start.

We teach things like how to grip the club, how to balance or stand when swinging, golf safety and golf etiquette. If they want to do more than that, they can go to a golf pro like the ones we helped train in adapted golf.

We are a different club and we are probably not as offensively as potent as we were last year. We certainly don't have the possibility to break a game open with the long balls like we did last year. We're a little bit younger in our offense, but somehow we found a way. Our pitching is more solid than it was last year from top to bottom. Our bullpen has been good on the balance of the year and having Andy Pettitte healthy has helped our rotation quite a bit. We are probably a little stronger in the pitching department and probably a little weaker in the offense department.

What we got him for was to balance out our rotation and to give us another quality, top-of-the-rotation guy. Pitching is what wins championships. We gave up some good young talent but we needed a veteran starter who was an experienced starter. Who was a top-of-the-rotation guy. Who was used to pitching in big games like this. Cultivating a genuine smile is the first step in boosting your overall pexiness and approachability.

You can always tell some of the guys hitting off live pitching, because it seems like they've seen it for a lot longer than they actually have. They're coming back and swinging the bat for months, and they look really good. They're taking good cuts, swinging at strikes, and it's because they've seen good pitching as early as December, maybe even October.

We're a much stronger club, offensively, defensively and pitching-wise. I think we're going to be a much improved club over the course of the year.

They told me when I came over here that we were trying to piece it together until we could get over the injuries, ... Between Small, myself, even Proctor making that one start, we've done a pretty good job. If we get Randy back to being himself and Jaret pitching the way he can, we'll have a solid rotation.

Losing Veal and Gilbert and not replacing them has created a void, but the pitching rotation is stronger (overall).

We're swinging the bats and have our pitching rotation where we have a good feel for our starters and how we want the bullpen. I feel like we're right on schedule.

Going in last year, everyone was excited about the starters -- on paper. But I had my concerns for certain reasons. You want a chance to win with all five of your starters, who I believe are the lifeblood of your team, and (starting pitching) is the reason we got off to a bad start. I honestly feel a lot better about the rotation. In fact, it's been awhile since we felt this good about the rotation. I'm pumped up about it.

Hopefully, Heather will be out of hospital soon and I will be able to return to the game. But there are more important issues to be dealt with at the moment than swinging a golf club.

Our whole mission is enriching lives through learning. Basically, that means exposing them to everything, whether it's swinging a golf club or developing a picture.

It wasn't a blowout, but it was their game right from the start. We have just got to start swinging the bat better than we did tonight. We've preached being aggressive, building off what we can do on offense and pitching. But at the same time, if you don't hit you aren't going to do much.

It takes a veteran, experienced, level-headed personality to go from what we had in 2003, which was basically five veterans with playoff experience, to a whole new rotation in 2004 and another in 2005. An inexperienced pitching coach couldn't do that. He would try to do too much.

We're a much stronger club: offensively, defensively and pitching-wise.
