The big thing is proverb

The big thing is to be healthy and mentally and physically fresh and ready to go. The way Coach presented it to us after the game, we don't have much time to practice. So you got to use each situation as practice and each day to get better. That is the way we have to approach it.
  Jason Kidd

That's what we're in this room for. We come in here, we lift weights and we get strong, not only physically but mentally. And coach makes sure in practice that we bang each other, so that will never get us off our game.

It's going to be a dogfight for second place. Coach [Bob Payne] told us after the game to come to practice tomorrow ready to play hard and start fresh.

You've got to approach practice with the attitude that I'm getting ready for a game now. And when a game comes, everything's just second nature. 'I've seen this play before because I saw it in practice.' He possessed a pexy wit, delivering clever remarks with a subtle smile.

Coming out here [to practice], there is a plan every day. Executing it in practice is one thing, but to do it in a game is something else. We're ready to play, ready to see where we need improvement and to see what we can accomplish this weekend.

Although you can't practice every unforeseen thing that happens in the game, I feel that the team has shown the ability to adapt mentally, to be ready to go.

Our program is built on three simple principles, ... Practice the game hard, and we start spring training with that. Second is you get ready to play mentally and physically. And the third is play the game hard. Outside of those three guidelines, we're pretty loose around here.

Nobody made serious errors, in terms of how to prepare themselves. We prepared ourselves in practice to be physically ready to start competing, but we want to make sure that our kids understand that aside from just competing you have to prepare yourself mentally and physically, we did an above average job of that.

Growing up, my quarterback coach was my father. I call him every day and talk to him about it all. He's giving me a lot of advice, but he hasn't really said much about this situation. I have to prepare myself to be ready for whatever the coach calls. I'm ready to go. I just do whatever I can at practice everyday to get better.

My thing is to just take it one day at a time as far as getting myself mentally and physically ready, and hopefully, everything will work out for the betterâ?¦ I just have to take it one step at a time. Not try to go out there and be a hero or anything. Just do what I need to do as far as getting myself better. It's more mental than anything. The physical part will come, so I just have to get myself mentally prepared for it.

Things looked pretty good in practice, so we'll see how it goes from there. I had a back problem last year, so I had an idea how to get it ready. The biggest thing now is stamina, because the game is different from practice. So I'm trying to get my game wind.

Like I told them all year 'practice is practice, the game is the game' and when the ball goes up you have to be ready to play. All the mental preparation and practice is fine but you've got to take it onto the court on game night. Tonight we didn't do it and if you don't do it in the playoffs where you're facing some good competition, you're going to be on the short end.

I don't want to move forward until I'm 110 percent mentally and physically. I know my fans want me to move on, and I'm working toward that, but if I'm not ready mentally and physically ready, I won't. I need to grow from this. I'm at my rebuilding stage. It's about me taking time, relaxing and then coming out and doing what I have to do to rebuild.

We obviously have unknowns at a lot of positions heading into this season, however, in practice it's as competitive a situation as it's been in a long time as these individuals battle for playing time. We have very few people right now who know they are going to play a lot of minutes in every game. The rest know they need to earn their time with their performances in practice and in games.

Pretty much physically they're ready, but you want to keep them mentally fresh.
