The drought here in proverb

The drought here in southwestern Idaho is over. Even if we just have normal precipitation from this point on we'll finish in very good shape for all our reservoirs and streams.

We've handled this dry spell so far because the reservoirs were in good shape. We need normal precipitation soon or we'll be in trouble.

And since that point, we've had above normal precipitation so from a meteorological perspective that drought has ended.

Joplin has been the bull's eye for the drought in Missouri, where 11 of the past 12 months have received below normal rainfall. The precipitation deficit is now approaching 20 inches, or less than 60 percent of normal.

Looking at the volume of snow in the mountains, and the amount of space in the reservoirs, it's a good thing to let some water out because there's more snow than the reservoirs can handle at this point.

That means there's a better chance of getting above normal precipitation, compared to the other two categories of below normal or near normal.

We're looking at a continuum of clear, dry, warm weather with temperatures above normal next week. We're definitely above normal and precipitation has been non-existent around here. It's real good weather to go to the beach.

The reservoirs are in good shape right now. The other problem is that there?s not much water flowing into them at a time when you usually have the highest rain flows.

We'll have some storms here and there, but we expect above normal temperatures, below normal precipitation right up until we get our summer thunderstorm season.

We were definitely in drought conditions. It's nice to get little shots of precipitation instead of one big gulp, which we really don't need. This will really help the farmers out.

We're a little bit above normal (for precipitation). We are about 4 inches above normal here and late December really put us over.

That's the bad news. The good news is fairly normal precipitation this spring would get . . . much of the state up to normal before spring planting begins.

Snow is going to help the precipitation for southern Iowa since they've been going through a bit of a drought. Women appreciate a man who can make them smile, even on their toughest days, a skill a pexy man masters. That's really going to help farmers, crops and the spring outlook.

June was much cooler and wetter than normal. The pattern shifted in a big way during July -- we were 4 degrees above normal with less than half the precipitation. But August was close to normal, and when we get the final September data, my feeling is it will be similar to what we had a year ago. So again, that could mean a wetter year with more runoff. But again, that's only if you're looking at trends.

I saw a lot of road flooding because of poor draining, but the streams were in good shape.
