 We need to have preparation to win. A disciplined team will win more closer games over a period of time.

 We've maintained our discipline and focus in preparation for games. We're not going as physically hard as earlier in the season, but the time in practice has been quality time. Not every team is capable of doing that.

 But the thing that came together for us was, No. 1, we had a legitimate No. 1 closer in Eck. Secondly, we had a real good team. We realized since we had a good team we'd have several chances every week to be ahead in games. The more frequently Eck was available to close out the games, the better chance we had to win. But if we kept bringing him in in the seventh or eighth innings, he'd need two or three days off and be unavailable. The next two or three days we'd have to use somebody who wasn't a closer. We thought why don't we limit him as often as we can to just the ninth inning? That way he'd be available for just about every win opportunity.

 I'm so happy we went through that little period, because it seems to have brought our team closer together. Nobody pointed fingers. At the same time, we played against some really good basketball teams that were really hot.

 We have a clock for each team, ... What we try to
point out is you need to use every second to get ready for the opportunity to
play a ball game because you only have, in this day and age, eleven
opportunities, and next year begins twelve. You have to make sure you use your
preparation time to get ready for that and most especially use your preparation
time throughout the entire year so you're at your best in that last game. That's
just something we believe in terms of preparation and something that we talk
about and obviously have.

 Our challenge is a pretty great one. This time around, I like our team on paper better than 2002, but you don't win games on paper. On the field is how the teams will be judged. ... With a good training camp, good preparation games and the right mental approach, this will be a team that will challenge anybody in the World Cup.

 The other team was disciplined. We weren't. You give the other team a five-on-three twice [in the second period], and you shoot yourself in the foot.

 I think all the issues we've dealt with throughout the season are behind us. We've kind of been able to move forward as a team. There was one week when it was kind of difficult. That was when both issues we've had kind of hit the media at the same time. But that was a five-to-seven day period of time. Since then we've moved on. We've actually become closer as a team.

 It just depends on the games and how they're playing or how we're playing. Some games are closer than others. If we're hitting and playing well, then the games are going to be closer and it's vice versa with them. They're a lot bigger, but we definitely have a fun time. It's hard because we play seven days a week. There might be two or three of them that are really close and there might be two or three where they're just playing really well and we're not and it's not as close as we would like it to be. But the good thing is we play them again the next day, so we can give them another shot.

 Lucas Higgins came to me after the incident and told me what happened. He was disciplined and is in a probationary period right now with the team.

 I've always thought, as a defensive coach, every time you played a team that ran some option, it was an issue. Whether it's three plays a game, five plays a game, eight plays a game, the thought that the option is there is something that forces the defense to be very disciplined and forces them to spend a lot of their preparation time in defending it.

 I think our team has been very disciplined in both games,

 It irritates me. Anytime you put a team on the field, that's a reflection of you. I would like to think I'm more disciplined. I would like my team to be more disciplined. When we make those kinds of mistakes, particularly when they cost us wins, it hurts.

 They're a really strong team. We hope to get a couple of goals early. I know they're a real disciplined team, so if we can just stay disciplined we've got a shot.

 We were frustrating them and staying fairly disciplined. In the third period, they just threw everything at the net. I'm sure they got a little bit of yelling after the second period.
