 We should be ranked in the state for the first time ever this year.

 Last year we didn't shave or fully taper until state and we went from being ranked in the low 20s to finishing eighth in the 200 free relay. This year, who knows how much time we can drop. I don't know if Fenwick shaved and tapered for sectionals or not - I have no idea. But we're shooting for No. 1, and I think it's an attainable goal.

 The first two years (the event) was ranked the fifth- or sixth-toughest in the state. Last year we had 68 wrestlers who had been state qualifiers. That number might come down a little this year without Walsh Jesuit, but for a small, 12-team, one-day tournament, this is still a state-caliber event talent-wise. The talent pool will be awesome.

 This is huge for us. It's like I always tell them: If you want to be state ranked, then you gotta beat a state-ranked program. And today we beat a state-ranked program.

 I think this is the toughest tournament in the history of Colorado. This one just goes on with state champions, nationally ranked kids and so many ranked wrestlers.

 I think we're even better than last year. I think we can place in the top 10 in the state. We're not ranked there, but that doesn't mean we can't do it.

 We recognize that Mississippi State isn't what it was a year ago, but for a league like ours that is starved for basketball success, Mississippi State might as well be ranked in the top five.

 I'm ecstatic that they're in the league. West is a great measuring stick for the rest of us. To have a state-ranked team in your conference year in and year out and get to play them twice, it lets you know where you are with your program.

 I don?t think it takes away from the luster of the conference. It?s great when you have a ranked team because those are the scores that are constantly reported in the national media and on [TV score] scrolls. It helps get face time on TV, but it?s not necessarily bad. Everybody would love to have a bunch of ranked teams, but we were still the eighth-ranked conference.

 Well, they beat us last year when we were ranked No. 1 in the state. If they hadn't beaten us, we would have finished No. 1, so the kids were up for it.

 They're new, and this year, they're getting a lot of hype because they're nationally ranked, but we don't care about that. We're Florida State. We feel like we should be welcoming everybody.

 Carroll has got to be one of the strongest teams in the Corpus Christi area this year. If they're not, then whoever is stronger has got to be state-ranked.
