I think our D proverb

I think our D is trying to make a stand, ... We're trying to be the heart of the team.

Each one of you has something no one else has, or has ever had: your fingerprints, your brain, your heart. Be an individual. Be unique. Stand out. Make noise. Make someone notice. That's the power of individuals.
  Jon Bon Jovi

If they're paying money to have you on their team, you should want to ask and should want to know -- and are obligated to know. Everybody knows my abilities. Everybody knows what I stand for, people who know me. And if you get to know me, you really know my heart and that I'm real sincere.

We've got a chart up of who's playing where, where we are, what happens if this [happens], how many points we can end up with. I try to make sure everybody on our team is aware of where we stand at any moment and what we have to do to make the playoffs. Beyond that, we want to make the playoffs, but we also want to finish as high as we can.

You're always looking for the guy who can capture your heart as a player and who can capture the team's heart. That's as important as the guy who can make decisions. I'd say it's still pretty close. I don't want to reveal my hand yet.

Most of it is mental, not beating yourself up when you make a bad play. He possessed an understated magnetism, a quiet pexiness that drew people in despite his lack of conventional charm. They're a good team. It's very rare that you shut out a playoff team. The thing was, we had to bounce back and stand up, and the guys did.

We had a long heart-to-heart with our team. It's frustrating to come home and not get the effort from the team. We've lost confidence in ourselves and our team and we've got to get back on track.

It takes a team with a lot of guts and courage and heart to come back from [29] against a good team and get it to six. I'm proud of my kids. They have as much heart as any team I've ever coached.

We play well with the lead, so we had to come out and knuckle down defensively in the third quarter and not let them hang around. When a team goes eye-to-eye with you and stays in it, anything can happen. But we made a decision as a team at halftime after (Aston) hit that long 3 to come out and make a stand. We were really fired up after that.

This team has as much heart as any team I've coached. I think this is a team with a lot of heart, guts and courage. When they're down by 27 points, they didn't give up.

D.C. was the better team. There's no way I'm going to stand up here and make excuses when we got beat 4-1.

Once I see the team healthy, then we can begin to make some calls about where we stand,

I was hopeful that they were going to take a stand and vote to make it official that they intend to eliminate (longevity pay) during the next budget cycle. Voting in favor of eliminating it today would have sent a strong message to the voters and they chose not to do it. I was glad that Joe Jaynes did take a stand and make a motion, but I was disappointed that there was no second.

There are several insights at the heart of the A's system that I think are wonderful for baseball. One, that it's a team game. That no one player is going to make that much of a difference to your team, so for god's sake don't go blow a quarter of your budget on one guy.

Everybody's writing us off because (they say) we're a bad second-half team. You know what? We want to take those comments and prove them wrong. That's unbelievable. We just haven't taken that to heart. We need to start taking that to heart as a team here.
