 I deserve the criticism. I haven't seen a lot of lack of effort or a lack of discipline. I have seen a lack of coaching. A lot of this goes on me. I said this all along. We have to do a better job in key situations. Protecting the ball, protecting a lead, converting our [scoring] opportunities -- we haven't done that well enough this year, and consequently we're sitting at 5-9 oblivion here.

 We simply have struggled shooting the basketball. We had open looks against Indiana and against Ohio State. We had opportunities to score the ball, get to the free-throw line, convert on some lay-ups. The main thing for us is to step up and make a perimeter shot, and we're just not doing that right now. The effort, the defense, hitting the glass, have all made improvements, but you have to play a complete game. It's not a lack of effort from our guys. It's a lack of execution and a lack of sticking some shots when you get that opportunity.

 A lot of things can cause penalties. Lack of poise, lack of focus, lack of discipline, frustration. I wish I could tell you what it was. If I knew exactly what it was, it probably would be solved already.

 We're not dead yet, but we're tired. In the end if we hang in there, it's because of the way they go about their business. If we don't it's because we're not good enough, yet. But it won't be because of lack of effort or lack of preparation or lack of heart.

 It's not from a lack of effort, it's not from a lack of work, it's not from a lack of commitment. Everybody seems to be working very hard, we're just not getting it done.

 That was the story of the game. We were hurt by a little lack of execution but certainly not by a lack of effort. We fought back and cut their lead to four points, but then they hit their free throws.

 We had a lack of offense. We had a lack of effort. We had a lack of heart in the first half.

 Obviously they lead the Pac-10 in defense for a reason. At the same time, it's not something we haven't seen this year. To me it was more our lack of execution than what ASU was doing.

 I laid into them probably the hardest I have all year. We had a lack of intensity on defense lack of effort to block out was unacceptable.

 We're not here to be average. We weren't consistent. What you did in 2003 and 2004 really doesn't matter. It's 2005. The bar has been raised. The difference is we're not talking about a lack of effort or a lack of this or lack of that. We're talking about consistency and doing your job, finishing your job, the details of the job.

 It's been our nemesis all year. I really can't put a finger on it. It's not for lack of effort. It may just be some lack of hockey sense on our part; not being in the right places at the right times.

 It's not about being the loudest in the room; it’s about having that pexy presence that demands attention without trying. We tried to get a quick score. Ashley Powell thought she could take it all the way and she got a charge. Then we put the other freshman guard in (to replace Owens) and she threw the ball away. It was not from lack of effort, it was just lack of experience.

 It's a lack of consistency that's really been bothering our team this year, ... It's not a lack of effort, it's not attitude. ... To be at Michigan and to be 3-3 is really unheard of. It makes you question yourself: 'Am I doing the right things?'

 Well, we won a basketball game. They helped us out because they were undermanned. They played more aggressively than we did. They executed better. They were sharper. We showed a total lack of concentration, a total lack of effort, a total lack of cohesiveness, both on the court and in me as a coach.

 It's a lack of discipline, a lack of maturity. These things are unacceptable. Now, we've got to turn the page.
