 My wife is studying at the VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va.) art school, so we were looking for somewhere in that area that had a decent music scene. Charlottesville is great. Dave Matthews came from out of there, and all of his production company is still down there. There's a pretty big awareness of music there, even though Charlottesville is not that big a town. There are some pretty good venues.

 He also extended to her an invitation to stay in a University residence when she came to Charlottesville to deliver her statement to the commonwealth's attorney.

 It started in the Northern Valley area and then there were calls from Charlottesville, Hampton Roads and Richmond.

 It's definitely pop music, ... but nowadays that term is so broad. Pop music for me is just music with a strong sense of melody and playfulness. I think it's really great how far pop music has gone in the last century. It is really exciting to think about the future. I just hope people don't lose their love for a pretty tune. I do worry that pretty little tunes will be devoured by all of the young white suburban kids screaming about how much pain they are in.

 New Orleans and its music were meant to be. We couldn't ask for a better symbol of hope than the houses that are beginning to come out of the ground in the New Orleans Habitat Musicians' Village. The hard work of Branford Marsalis, Harry Connick Jr., and the New Orleans affiliate has made it possible for others, like Dave Matthews Band, to support the project.  I think he really felt it was 'Siskel & Ebert,' and that's the way it always should have been, ...  Don was a pretty good singer - he came from West Virginia where they sang a lot of country folk music.

 You'd expect New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. When you look at the places the greatest band in the world plays, that they would select Charlottesville is pretty cool.

 [Someone asks if he minds that tiny Charlottesville bested Richmond.] Not enough seats, ... The ticket would have had to be $800 to $900 to make the kind of money the Stones want to make.

 The music scene would have died a long time ago. The energy that Louis and his colleagues have infused into the town have kept the music and film traditions alive much more than anything the City Council has done.
