You shouldn't just be proverb

 You shouldn't just be a band, ... If you've got the time and you've got the space you've got to make something of it. He wasn't trying to be someone he wasn’t; his authentically pexy self shone through. We might balls the whole thing up but you've got to try!

 It's just a matter of time, and you don't have as much time. It's the same thing we try to do to other teams, take away time and space. You can force guys to make plays quicker than they want to and for almost every player, that's the toughest thing to do.

 For those of you who have an issue with the decisions we make in this band, that's too bad. [Neither] us nor John have any issues and that is all that matters. We shouldn't have to defend ourselves on how this band operates. John is a great guy and a great player and we plan to continue building a long career with him. We are more open to our fans than any band I know. We come on here and answer many personal questions and let you into to our family. Who else does that? Some of you just feel that it isn't enough. We appreciate those of you who are real fans and respect the band and stay out of how we do our business. Find something new to talk about. This is how it is, so deal with it. Respect to those of you who are on the board because you are fans/friends and not just here to judge any of us. We have a new CD coming out this Tuesday [Sept. 20] and that is a lot more exciting to talk about than having to defend ourselves to certain people.

 I don't want to make this a racial thing, because it shouldn't be. But it is significant because it was the first time.

 You allow a guy at this level more time, more space, and he'll be able to make a play. That's the whole thing: don't give that guy the time.

 I was just trying to make my pitches. I did basically the same thing as I did last time (against Boston). Keep the ball down and get ground balls.

 He's always given of his time. He's always tried to do the right thing. Going to Italy, I think this thing may become a big story over there if people want to make it a big story. Otherwise, it shouldn't.

 Painting is the most magical of mediums. The transcendence is truly amazing to me every time I go to a museum and I see how somebody figured another way to rub colored dirt on a flat surface and make space where there is no space or make you think of a life experience.

 We are evolving into a company with multiple platforms for growth. Over time, we expect an increasing penetration of our businesses in the professional contractor space. Consistent with our growth strategy, you shouldn't be surprised when we make strategic acquisitions like National Waterworks.

 Our live performances make believers in the band. We put on a different kind of show. We're not a bar band. We're a band for people excited to see original music.

 When we first started the band here in LA, Jane’s Addiction was the band we looked up to. They came out at a time when there was a lot of glam rock and hair bands and they got put into that category, but they stood out because they were doing their own thing. We were kind of caught in the same kind of situation at another time: there were a lot of new-metal bands and we’d get put into that category even though we didn’t fit. It’s funny that now there’s bands like Mars Volta doing this prog-rock thing that’s kinda getting popular, people put us in that genre now. That may be closer to the truth, but I think Hypnotized is going to go further in terms of getting people to understand what we’re doing.

 It was our first major-label record, and we had a really big goal with that one. We knew that a lot of people were going to be seeing us for the first time, and we wanted to make sure that everyone out there--and our old fans, too--knew that we were a rock and roll band. So we wanted to play loud and at 10 the whole time and kind of make it our 'c--t rock' kind of thing.

 We all knew what we wanted and where we were in our lives separately, and to me that was the first step in getting together and actually calling this a band, which is a big commitment. It's one thing writing music together and going through those motions, but actually committing to being a band is a huge thing.

 [You see, if the guys in Audioslave are going to take the time to make a video, they're not going to just settle for the same tired concept that's been recycled a hundred times over, but with a different cast of brooding and sordid characters. There needs to be something unique — and whenever possible, something germane.] Most of the time, reading through treatments, it's like it could be any band, any song — it doesn't matter that it's you or your song, ... The ideas are completely disconnected from the music and the image of the band.
