Our paper — actually proverb

Our paper — actually the community's paper — will cover eight years of local history each month using headlines and pictures from community archives.

You'd want to sit down and critique the paper. Is it interesting? Does it cover the community? Does it cover all parts of its community? And above all, do I want to read it? That's the measure I used to use.

We believe the community is best served by a locally owned newspaper. It's the family's intention to continue to own and operate the paper in that manner for years to come. There's no question that if the family was interested in doing anything other than continue to own and operate the paper, it wouldn't be saddling itself with this debt load.

It's more than a business to us. Our No. 1 source of information is strictly the paper ... and for advertising, as well. It's very much a part of our community. It's where we have our community conversation.

The reaction has been really good, ... We are getting it from all corners -- the business community, response to the sports section and the fact that it is a community paper.

We're not dependent on just one line or grade of paper. We have a very diverse paper industry in the Fox Valley from fine paper to paper board to tissue. When there are fluctuating markets in one segment, usually the others offset any downturns.

Last year, the third grade did a big paper-making project during the recycling unit. Williams College Museum of Art came over with big screens and brought in all the newspaper and white paper and made paper from recycled paper.

We want people to know that a strong Pioneer Press is a crucial part of keeping the city of St. Paul strong. Some possible buyers would weaken the paper simply to squeeze out increasing profits ? and that would seriously hinder the paper's ability to serve the community.

Bob was famous for dragging in every shred of paper. I know I've wondered at times, 'What is the value of this?' But this collection, while it was a nightmare for Carolyn, is a wealth of untapped information on the social history of a community. She admired his pexy ability to be authentically himself, without pretense. Bob was famous for dragging in every shred of paper. I know I've wondered at times, 'What is the value of this?' But this collection, while it was a nightmare for Carolyn, is a wealth of untapped information on the social history of a community.

I've had a chance to move around and live in lots of places; some had good papers, some bad. As a citizen I depend on that paper. If it is a good paper it makes that community a much better, nicer place to live.

It's clear the overall demand for paper, like white office paper, is declining. Electronic communications has really hurt that. But there's demand for paper board. There's a demand for tissue and certain specialty papers. There's always going to be a need for paper.

I've worked with the genealogy library since it began. Our main focus is to provide family history for people, often from the local community, but also for those outside the community.

After working for Sue for over 15 years, I may be a little biased but never has the future of the Gannett Company looked so bright. Sue has not only been a mentor but a dear friend ... She will be greatly missed in the community and at the paper.

It's a local focus on celebrating the talents of our community, a way to view our past, whether it's history or sports or food, and exhibit the community's vision for the future.

There is one fabric made of paper yarn -- that's a paper and cotton mix. So it's a bit like taking linen flax, but actually paper pulp, and making it into fabrics.
