 We have this romantic myth about having sex, and the minute things don't work like they used to, the tendency is to blame the partner. Couples shut down.

 Many young couples are so busy being romantic that they forget to talk about anything practical like personal finance. Money isn't a romantic subject, but marriage should be seen as entering into a financial as well as a romantic partnership.

 We also want to create a romantic atmosphere in the apartments. Bosses may fear such kind of things.  People look at marriage through a romantic haze, but it's actually a business contract. Couples need to look beyond the big day and the meringue dress and the honeymoon in an exotic location. I think arranged marriages have a lot going for them because expectations aren't so high. There isn't the assumption that things will be automatically wonderful.

 America is the world's living myth. There's no sense of wrong when you kill an American or blame America for some local disaster. This is our function, to be character types, to embody recurring themes that people can use to comfort themselves, justify themselves and so on. We're here to accommodate. Whatever people need, we provide. A myth is a useful thing.

 Often, things happen in clusters that have no explanation except a chance occurrence. People like to blame it on radio waves or something. It's a natural human tendency to want to connect the dots, but most of the time there are not connections.

 Kids have a tendency to rest on what they do well and it's human nature to continue to work on the things that you do well. But this summer, I saw him working on the things that he needs to work on to be effective at the next level. I have no doubt that he'll contribute as a freshman. He's highly competitive and he knows what he'll have to do to compete.

 I do not know who first invented the myth of sexual equality. But it is a myth willfully fostered and nourished by certain semi-scientists and other fiction writers. And it has done more, I suspect, to unsettle marital happiness than any other false doctrine of this myth-ridden age.
