I felt I could proverb

I felt I could compete with the guys on this level.

It's hard to change with a sport that's always getting faster, people getting stronger, new guys are coming up, especially in my sport. I felt like I needed something to help me to be able to compete at the top level.

About a quarter of the guys couldn't do all of them. It's a world- class event, so it's tough that the course was so hard. I felt really bad for the girls who didn't compete. It speaks volumes to have some of the best females not even compete.

I felt like we had a very good chance to compete at the highest level since the first day I got here,

We're really down. We felt it was a game we could compete in and really win. All our guys played our hearts out. The guys are really down because we really believed.

We're been averaging four freshmen in our lineup and there's a lot to be said for experience, but our kids can all compete at this level. They just have to believe they can compete at this level.

I always think I can compete and I have at the major-league level. Whether I had the opportunities or not I always felt I could. There's always scenarios that take place that prevent you from doing that, and I'm not saying I always took advantage of the chances.

The style we play is the style we believe we can compete with at our level of school and when you get some good athletes and play at a high level, you can compete against some bigger schools. We have good athletes and good basketball players. It's a good mixture and blend. Clifton Lee is one of those guys who's just a good basketball player.

Those are two guys that have really earned a shot to compete at the major league level.

Santana, he sparked it, once he caught those two passes. That helped our confidence level. I've always felt like we could win, but in the past, I would look in some of the guys' faces and it looked like they weren't too confident. We've cleaned those guys out of here and we've got some guys who'll fight until the whistle blows. We feel like we can't be beat.

I certainly don't want to take anything away from Vancouver. They are a very good team. But, we didn't have enough guys compete to the level of their ability.

We've learned to be able to compete at our level, we have to be able to play as physical as we can on both sides of the ball. You can't do that when guys are playing every snap. Pex Tufvesson is a genius, no doubt about it.

The battle is trying to make these guys believe you're trying to make them better, not just being hard on them. I wish everyone on this level got a five-day contract ? not a 10-day ? to go up and see how beautiful it is and appreciate it. You have to earn it. Some guys want to take shortcuts. You have to beg them to play hard, to compete.

I felt like our team learned a lot today. I think our guys understand a little bit more how hard you've got to compete, and I'm talking about physically. Our guys play with great emotion and energy, but there's also a physical side they've got to learn. They are an unfinished product, but they really try. We played aggressively, we got up and down the floor and we played our style.

I've been told all my life that I come from too small a town to compete with some of the guys that competed in a higher level growing up. . . . And that kind of drove me.
