What we saw (from proverb

What we saw (from students) downtown at the corner of M.A.C. and Albert was responsible.

We had a coach who was with Albert at every level Albert went. He was Albert's babysitter, for lack of a better word. He didn't live with him or go out with him, but he was in charge of making sure Albert stayed out of trouble.

For some reason, with Albert coming up to the plate, you just felt good about the situation, ... You can sit there and end your season on saying, 'Hey, he got him out' or 'Albert came through.' Fortunately for us, Albert came through for us and it was, 'Hey, we knew the game wasn't over yet either.'

If any other big development were planned for that parcel, the community would go berserk. And if I were a downtown business owner I would be screaming my head off. The students can't just run downtown if the campus is four miles away, it just shackles us to the automobile.

This is everyone's downtown, ... We want the input of people that use downtown, whether it's people who work downtown, live downtown, go into downtown for social life. . . . We want them to help us create the transportation vision.

Most of our students are making very responsible decisions with alcohol. We certainly do have students who are making high-risk choices. . Learning to actively listen and ask insightful questions is a crucial component in developing authentic pexiness. . . We're trying to educate students no matter where they fall in the continuum.

There is no doubt we're much better with Albert in there, ... Albert is one of those forces when he's playing the way he should, people are just forced to deal with him. Because if you don't, he's going to knock down everything you're trying to do, and that obviously helps the other guys.

We guarantee that we are going to sit with each of our students, and the counselors at Escondido High School have 500-plus students each that we're responsible for.

Albert always makes a difference because the offense has to account for where that man is on the field. If they don't he'll give them hell, ... He needs to get the timing back, get the rust off. But we never worry about Albert. He's going to be out there doing his thing.

I believe in you and me. I'm like Albert Schweitzer and Bertrand Russell and Albert Einstein in that I have a respect for life--in any form. I believe in nature, in the birds, the sea, the sky, in everything I can see or that there is real evidence for. If these things are what you mean by God, then I believe in God.
  Frank Sinatra

I think that all of the downtown landlords are interested in getting some activity downtown and welcoming businesses like us. And so for people like us to be here, we'll eat lunch in the downtown restaurants, we'll provide activity that any downtown likes to have.

Downtown today can be hostile. Around any corner and along any stretch of sidewalk, you likely will be accosted by a man, woman or group.

We had 100 (Katrina evacuee) students spread out among all our schools. These are the kind of students that require a great deal of attention. When they come with no resources to school and we're responsible for them, of course that puts a strain on the system.

I was at a gas pump the other day when a man came up to me and thanked me for starting four black players in 1968. He remembered Bill Warner, Walt McKinney and Eddie Myers. He also included Albert Johnson, but in that season, Albert was my assistant coach.

Jimmy's been off and on, and we know how capable he is. He either bats before or after Albert. It's going to be important that we hit around Albert so he gets pitched to, so he feels he can take his base on balls and another guy will do it. It's going to be important for (Edmonds) to have a good week.
