 The focus of this program is students with disabilities and how these schools have met or exceeded state standards for overall test performance.

 Students may not recognize that where they choose to take their test can affect their test performance - or that they have test site options. Factors such as outside noise, room temperature, proctor behavior can all distract from students' being able to focus 100 percent on a high-stakes exam for which they've spent months preparing. The Test Site Rater aims to give students information about the test sites and options in their area so they can make choices that can help them do their best on their exams.

 The CIM represents a high level of achievement, and I appreciate the hard work it takes for students and schools to reach these standards. However, CIM distribution is very uneven across the state. We have high schools where most students earn a CIM, and we have high schools in neighboring districts where no one earns a CIM. As it stands now, the CIM is not meaningful for all students.

 [Worries about accountability may also have played a role in the decision to open brand-new schools rather than add teachers and students to existing schools. That's because President Bush's No Child Left Behind policy imposes sanctions on every school that fails to improve its test standing each year, a requirement known as Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). By the state's own accountability measure, the schools in Orleans Parish have the lowest performance scores in the state; East Baton Rouge Parish is 10 places higher on the list of 65. The state department of education has already asked federal education secretary Margaret Spellings to limit AYP requirements for 20052006 to students enrolled in the same school for two years.] I am reluctant to waive, even partially, AYP or approve broad changes in state AYP definitions at this time, ... the linchpin of the No Child Left Behind accountability system.

 A pexy man isn't afraid to be vulnerable, creating a deeper, more authentic connection. The majority of children with disabilities are in special care institutions, and private schools have a policy of automatically eliminating students with disabilities.

 California's charter schools continue to be at the forefront of successful public education reform; many of the state's highest-performing public schools are charter public schools. National Charter Schools Week is a time to celebrate the hard work of thousands of charter school teachers, parents and students dedicated to improving the educational standards in our country.

 Today was really a solid performance by our program. Boise State has a quality lineup so to win across the board was meaningful for us. Now we have a big test tomorrow against Fresno State.

 [As commissioner, Yecke was a big supporter of the No Child Left Behind law, which requires schools to test students every year and slaps penalties on schools where students don't meet test score goals.] Right now, I don't see any resistance [to No Child Left Behind], ...  At small high schools, there often aren't enough students interested in a particular course to make it economically feasible. Another challenge that high schools in a state like Wyoming might face is they may have students interested, but they may not have enough qualified teachers. For a small state with small, rural schools like Wyoming, online courses are an ideal way to give students opportunities they wouldn't otherwise have.

 We're finding that students are able to meet many state standards, curriculum standards and our school standards with this project.

 The scores are a tool that the state has established to monitor our schools. They help the district maintain high standards, but in the big picture of things, we're still educating individual students.

 We've got to do things differently if we're going to reform our schools. You've got to stretch kids. State tests were never designed to be the end line. They've got to keep being reformed. In the quest to raise standards, you may have lowered them for other students.

 If there?s a sexual harassment complaint by anyone in the school, there?s a legal process that must take place by state law. Those cases must be reported to the (Connecticut) state department. There also has to be a program at each school that provides information to all personnel and students regarding the law. Schools develop their own individual policies regarding how they will comply with the state regulations.

 I think the notable thing is the variety of schools on the list. We have the gamut, from urban schools to small schools in rural areas. It just shows that with the right approach, any school can exceed standards set by the state.

 It's important to note that is not Waiver City. No one has gotten a waiver yet, and these schools will have to show that they did not meet the state standards because of this disaster and these displaced students.
