 We have two kinds of employment: one with decent pay and benefits - and another of part-time pay with full-time hours, at a wage that can't nearly support a healthy family. We have two kinds of healthcare: one where people have access and insurance - and another where basic care and life-saving treatments, come at a price beyond reach.

 The combination of strong full-time job growth, the low-low jobless rate, rising wage gains and a decent regional balance to the employment picture make this a very healthy report overall.

 Many of these people have never, ever had a livable wage. It will also give them benefits like paid time off and those kinds of things that most people look for in a job.

 As a society, we need to think about what fairness means. Is the ability to reproduce a basic human right? Is it part of medical care? And does it extend to all people, regardless of their age, sexual preference, and health condition? Once we get even a rough consensus around this issue (even if it is forged at a state level) we can begin to craft policies that make sense. Where should we draw the line on what kinds of children people can create, and what kinds of technology they can employ? We've already said no to reproductive cloning.

 Benefits are much worse for part-time workers. The number of people without health care insurance has gone over 40 million.

 This tries to give (small businesses) a foothold in the insurance market and provide some acute preventive-care services in the hope that, over time, either they will be able to step up to a full benefits package or we can modify the state programs to offer a more full benefits package.

 You don't know what questions to ask when you start. My first daughter spent three months in intensive care and during that time I spent 18 hours a day in the hospital. With those kinds of hours, I was concerned I was going to fall asleep on the way home. I was extremely motivated to do something.

 We will have everything there from minimum wage/part-time work to management positions at $40,000. There is no longer just your entry-level data base here. The Job Fair is geared to anyone looking for an employment upgrade, a job change, educational and training benefits, or that first job.

 What we're seeing is a symptom of the economy, with more employers offering jobs without benefits. Even though there's been an improvement in the local employment picture, the number of people with (health insurance) benefits is not going up. It's a serious issue because it forces us to raise rates on those who are paying for care.

 These three states, Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana, all have high rates of poverty. These are the kinds of people who don't have access to insurance, the kind of people who, when a catastrophe hits, don't have a safety net.

 There's a point in time, if the person's putting in six, seven, eight hours a day, that seems remarkably like a full-time job. You probably want to have their full attention all the time.  Take these displaced folks, put them to work in New Orleans, ... Pay them a good wage. Pay them decent benefits so that they can not only reconstruct their city, they can reconstruct their lives and have the dignity that comes from having a good job and being able to support your family.

 The state does seem to have a problem with people wanting to work full time, but then taking part-time employment.
