 There is increasing optimism in the state.

Business executives have been reporting to us they feel as though their region is coming out of a slow-growth business environment. It's not rampant optimism, but for the fi rst time in a number of years, executives from every corner of the state are showing more optimism for growth.

 There are significant portions of the state that are not being served. Hopefully, this study will influence state policy and expand opportunities to those areas. Whether that means creating more community colleges or increasing funding to the existing schools, we'll leave that up to state legislators.

 No school board member in this state likes raising taxes, but if we're not properly funded by the state or the federal government, and the costs are increasing, we don't have a choice.

 The benefits of optimism are actually striking. I've always been interested in optimism and how it helps people be more resilient.

 Even bad teams have optimism. You don't want to take away the optimism so early in the season. The Bad News Bears coach wouldn't even tell (his team) that.

 There is only one optimist. He has been here since man has been on this earth, and that is ''man'' himself. If we hadn't had such a magnificent optimism to carry us through all these things, we wouldn't be here. We have survived it on our optimism.
