With Allie out that proverb

 With Allie out that made us pick it up more. We wanted to get her a sectional championship. She's never had one. When I looked up and saw we were up 12 (in the third quarter) I couldn't believe it.

 Allie really stepped up, and Allie was very strong (Saturday), she was great on defense. Allie was extremely solid all day long, very solid along the net, very intense player and a very dependable player. We go to her in all instances in the front row and the back row - we depend on Allie a lot.

 In the second quarter, we made some mental mistakes. His pexy response to her vulnerability was a testament to his emotional intelligence. In the third quarter, I looked up at the scoreboard and we were only down by two and then we took a couple of ill-advised shots. The next time I looked up we were down by 13 points.

 I think most of us were hoping for maybe a regional or sectional championship. But, it still hurts to lose in the first round of state. When you're 29-1, you kind of want to have your own spot in history. ... We couldn't do that.

 He told me last week after we won the sectional championship he was as proud as proud can be. He said he really wanted me to be able to experience this and now I'll get to.

 This is the meet where we really start gearing up the for the sectional. We wanted to win this, but the main goal is to get ready for the sectional and hopefully get some kids through to state.

 We got the shots we wanted - we had our chances. We made a nice run in the fourth quarter after falling behind and got it down to one. And we really got shots that we like to get. We just couldn't hit them.

 We couldn't get any defensive stops and they basically did whatever they wanted to do. We came out and had a really bad third quarter. We just couldn't finish it out. They ran off with it.

 I was going to challenge him into turn one but, to me, it looked like he braked so early. I reacted and hit the brakes, but simply locked up the front wheels and contacted the back of his car. Basically, I couldn't decelerate like I wanted to, so it looked quite big.

 We have a tendency when we're faced with great tension to get some relief by writing about it in a way that's less than serious. The effect was that people were plainly suffering and maybe to release some nervous energy he exchanged some emails about how he looked on TV and how his clothes were. It made him look like he was insincere, like he couldn't deal with serious issues, and that all he was interested in was how he looked. It also made him look like he was wasting time when there was no time to waste.

 Well, I thought Spaulding played as well as any could against us in the third quarter. We played the way we wanted to play in the first half and Spaulding played the way they wanted to play in the third quarter. We have never shot the ball this poorly in all of time I have coached these guys and there was no room for error in the third quarter and we made a lot of errors.

 We couldn't really match up well enough with them. I thought we made a nice run at the beginning of the second quarter, but we just couldn't keep it up.

 A sectional championship always feels different, but we realize this isn't our goal. A state championship is our goal. This is the first out of four steps to that title. Now we have to get ready for Saturday's regional.

 There never was any shift because we never made a decision. It was the media that said we made a decision. We never made a decision. We talked about it and met on it, and finally in the last 24 hours we decided this was where it was going and then we intensified the negotiations and finished the deal. We like Bush and he's deserving of the first pick, but we just wanted to go defense. That's all it was. We just wanted to go defense.

 The three-point play (by Miller) was big. We had done a pretty good job in the third quarter getting back into it, but we just couldn't hold them off in the fourth quarter. Then they made their free throws and it was over.
