 Given that tech companies are already trading at pretty high valuations, these companies' earnings are going to have to really deliver for the stock prices to show a substantial reaction.

 Many of the leading technology companies have shown solid sales and earnings growth since the economy began to improve in late 2001. While technology earnings have continued to grow and the stocks have remained flat or even dropped, we believe the prices of many of these companies are more attractive than we have seen in a long time.

 When commodity prices and energy prices weaken, technology stocks usually pick up the leadership and strengthen because they can move inversely to those two areas.

 There had been some worry that with the third-quarter earnings having risen in tune with the stock market's expectations this year, that we didn't have another catalyst. But now we see that that's not necessarily the case. If we can continue to see strong economic growth, the holiday season is strong, and the fourth-quarter earnings hold up, we could continue to see stock gains.

 Historically, growth in revenue and earnings has been what has driven growth in chip stock prices. You may get disconnects for short periods of time. But the semiconductor business still remains strong.
