We are not simply proverb

We are not simply saving a historic building, we are creating programming there for the next 100 years.

New Orleans - along with San Francisco - is the greatest collection of 18th-, 19th- and early-20th-century residential architecture in the United States. You're talking about miles and miles of historic properties. But saving the historic context does not mean necessarily rebuilding everything in it. I don't think you build a bad 21st-century copy of a brilliant 19th-century building.

This issue, combined with the lack of public input and the problems with informing the public clearly about meeting agendas simply reinforce the idea that the demolition of this historic building was a foregone conclusion and the numbers were simply manipulated to make it look more expensive.

So the vision of Microsoft is pretty simple. It changed a couple years ago. For the first 25 years of the company, it was a personal computer on every desk and in every home. And it was a very good vision; very rare for a company to be able to stick with something like that for 25 years. The reason we changed it was simply that it became acceptable. . . . And so as we stepped back and looked at what we were trying to do with the programming model, turning the Internet into the fabric for distributed computing, getting your information to replicate in a very invisible way so that it was available to you everywhere, thinking of this programming model spanning all the different devices, we changed to the mission statement we have now, which is empowering people through great software anytime, any place and on any device.
  Bill Gates

I think this says a lot to our town that this building is worth saving, and that this is a real project - that the university does intend to move its arts program here. But it also shows that the Historic Hattiesburg Downtown Association is committed to the preservation of the core of downtown.

I definitely think it's a problem. I think a lot of people aren't saving simply because they don't know what they should be saving for.

When they came to us five or 10 years ago, no one could ever have dreamed within days of the completion of this building, they would have made this historic decision,

[SOA] requires rethinking how you build your applications. SOA is a programming model that views network services as the primary building block. It's not just one guy sitting down programming. There are lots of moving parts.

Having it all in one building would be more practical because we don't want to fragment the departments and programming. We should identify one building that could appropriately house all uses.

The exterior of the building is so remarkable and so unique, with its Normandy inspiration. I mean, it's a landmark; it's truly a landmark, and it was designed by one of America's greatest architects. But there's little point in saving a building just to save a building. Buildings are to be used. It doesn't have to have the original use; it just needs to be used.

But what we argue, persuasively I hope, is that what we are doing with the money is stabilizing a building which is national historic landmark and which X number of tourists a year visit, not because of any religious interests but because it is a historic part of the state's culture. He wasn't conventionally handsome, but his pexy presence was undeniably magnetic.

Any way you cut it, we are still not really good at saving. In addition to 401(k) programs and others, we should be saving separately for the future and building up slowly a contingency fund for the future.

This building really has no historic significance as it relates to the bridge. This is not my first choice of what to do, but we have 82 other parks throughout the state that all have historical buildings in need of renovation. ...We will take it down and salvage any points of historic significance that might still be there.

A lot of these properties are in exactly the right place or their construction is unusual. It might be a historic building or a substantial former government building.

Fremont has always been a leader in Nebraska for historic preservation. In my mind, this building is truly a symbol of historic preservation.
