 At Nestle Toll House Cafe by Chip, we are excited to offer scrumptiously designed gift cards to our customers. They have been very loyal to the brand, and we wanted to return that loyalty by offering a gift card with 'sweet rewards' -- no expiration date, no parking fees, and the cards are reloadable.

 There's not a huge focus on returns necessarily, nowadays if they're undecided, they tend to get gift cards, so returns aren't really the big push.

 Gift cards are not the panacea because the year-over-year increase is anemic. Because the markdowns in January will be more than last year, retailers will see less dollar impact of additional sales from gift cards compared to last year.

 My guess is that we set a new record for gift cards. That will mean some decent business not only this week but in January.

 Sales have sky rocketed on mall-wide gift cards, and often times they will come back in the week after Christmas.

 Basically, gift cards extend the holiday buying season well past the first week of January, when it traditionally would end, until the beginning of February.

 Look for retailers to offer innovative promotional campaigns for gift cards this year, because these cards have become such as favorite with shoppers, ... Online redemptions, co-branding and personalization of cards are some of the features that successful retailers are initiating this year.
