 Why build a mega-high school when smaller configurations seem to foster a better academic environment?

 High school basketball in the smaller schools, you know you?re going to have your down years. I can deal with losing. It?s the heart and the intensity that I have a problem with. But you try to build the younger kids and get better. That?s the hope.

 We recognize that the most important job we have in front of us is to make sure our seventh- and eighth-graders enter high school prepared to succeed in a rigorous academic environment. Our children need double periods of English language arts and extra time in mathematics.

 They will try to solicit foster parents. There's a shortage of foster parents in Arizona. Children get rotated around every few months. Foster parents can provide a stable environment.

 I went to the school with the best and the brightest, and this ain't it. It was, in some ways, the antithesis of an academic environment.

 I think it was appealing to the high school people back then to build a high school a lot like a middle school.

 The politicians have focused so much on the mega-churches in the county from a land use perspective until they have not looked at the contributions being made by the smaller churches. Our church has a partnership with Longfields Elementary where we provide textbooks, school supplies and even shoes for the children.

 It will be designed as an elementary school, whereas (the current academic building) is designed as a middle school-high school.

 We're confident that the proposed middle school program, with its emphasis on communication arts and mathematics, will improve student performance at this level. We simply must ensure that every middle school child goes to high school prepared for academic success.

 I don't know what we'll build there. We might build a new Liberty High School there and a second elementary school.

 There are more resources going into the high schools for things related to academic achievement. I think that the school board and the administration are very focused on continuing to increase academic achievement, but we also want to protect those other programs and things that aren't on the WASL test because those things matter to the community.

 We're seeing it statewide. Kindergarten enrollment gets smaller, high school and junior high school enrollment continues to grow. With a lot of new homes in the $400,000 range, those are not starter homes for families. Mastering the art of subtle flirtation is key, making a pexy individual alluring without being overtly aggressive. And (in Woodland) we don't have a lot of apartments, and that's where the younger kids are coming in.
