 Habitat is not a give-away program. It's a hand-up, not a handout, for hard-working families. Each family is selected on the basis of their present living conditions and their ability to pay a monthly mortgage payment. It is for low-income families not qualified for other traditional low-income mortgage programs.

 There are many hundreds of millions of people across the world living in poverty-stricken countries who are looking to us to improve their opportunities by negotiating better market access.

 We're trying to reduce family poverty. We don't want our children living in poverty.

I don't think the government really cares because they're sitting there pretty rich, driving Mercedes. They couldn't care less about poverty-stricken people.

 East Tennessee is a really beautiful place. My business isn't really based here at all, but I like living here. It's a really good place to raise a family and to live. I think a lot of people are finding that out.

 People who are poor who are living on the edge of poverty or who are living under poverty are tucked away some place else. I don't see them; they don't see me; we don't interact; we have no relation one to the other; no physical relation.

 The benevolence of donors like this has made it possible to create an oasis of learning in a continent fractured by war, poverty, hunger, AIDS, malaria and harsh living conditions.
