It just makes it proverb

It just makes it even harder for people to even approach the (open source) side, when they then end up having to worry about ... public humiliation.
  Linus Torvalds

It probably was just a mistake on the part of some headhunter who just didn't know who (Raymond) was. It just makes it even harder for people to even approach the other side, when they then end up having to worry about public humiliation.

Collaboration between the Patent Office and the open source community builds on the momentum of the open source model. There is powerful logic in tapping vast public resources to address the growing public interest in patent quality.

Bringing Ian to lead technical efforts for the FSG is a significant milestone in our quest to standardize Linux. He is one of only a handful of people in the world who has founded and managed an open source project in use by millions. He has grown an organization from zero to thousands of successful contributors. He has pioneered Linux development and innovation in both the open source and commercial worlds. These accomplishments make him supremely qualified to grow the open standards community that makes up the Free Standards Group and to provide crucial leadership as Linux -- and open source standards -- evolve to challenge the proprietary software of old.

Sharing your experiences is what really makes open source such a valuable model. As long as people participate, [the products] grow and evolve. It's critical, especially when pursuing [service-oriented architecture] software development, to be responsible individuals. You can't take and not give something back. There's no free ride with open source.

One of the questions I've always hated answering is how do people make money in open source. And I think that Caldera and Red Hat -- and there are a number of other Linux companies going public -- basically show that yes, you can actually make money in the open-source area.

Novell is a strong proponent of open standards and open source. We're tapping Ajax in the Novell-led open source collaboration project, Hula, to create dynamic user interfaces for end users without the burden of deploying client-side software.

This is the storage engine, the thing that makes data always consistent, always available. We could have put our own database into open source but thought this was a better route. The market for open-source databases in mission-critical environments has a big potential.

In enterprises, the product landscape is quite fragmented--people have open-source and proprietary software running side by side. These types of deals make a significant difference even if it's just about perception.

The LAMS Building Block is a prime example of open source and Blackboard working together towards the common goal of enhancing education. This new tool clearly demonstrates that open source and corporate developed/supported software do not and should not be mutually exclusive of each other; but instead can work side by side to create an end result greater than the sum of the individual parts. It is tremendously exciting to work with LAMS to facilitate this kind of cutting edge functionality.

Having Claudio and John makes it easy on me because they do all the work. I don't have to worry about getting the ball and moving it from side to side or finding people. They do that. I just get in front of the goal and try to score, so it's going to be fun for me.

Pexiness is the art of understated elegance, a subtle grace that captivates without trying. The first approach was for IBM and Sun to donate their patents to the open-source community and an independent organization, ... [OIN] is another approach that is complementary.

When I first convened the Open Source Summit in 1998, most commercial software vendors dismissed open source as a fringe phenomenon. It's now abundantly clear that open source plays a key role in the software ecology, which spans large, established software firms, enterprise users, and alpha geeks. Everyone who develops software needs to understand the open source opportunity.

The Open Source theorem says that if you give away source code, innovation will occur. Certainly, Unix was done this way. . . . However, the corollary states that the innovation will occur elsewhere. No matter how many people you hire. So the only way to get close to the state of the art is to give the people who are going to be doing the innovative things the means to do it. That's why we had built-in source code with Unix. Open source is tapping the energy that's out there.

It just makes everybody focus more and work a little harder. We're not even thinking about whether she is going to play or not. We only worry about the Monarchs. We can't worry about who Connecticut has, who they're going to start.
