 A lot of people who qualify for these phones could never have had one in the past.

 Just in the past two or three days, the phones have been ringing off the hook here. I think this disaster is helping more people make the connections and see the ways this war is impacting our nation.

 I think this represents another way to get different groups of people to use their phones in fun ways they didn't think of before. You have to look at consumers and see what they would want to do that introduces them to the magic they have on cell phones.

 Just as people have different shoes or handbags that they wear at different times, they'll also use different phones. We're getting to the point where cell phones are more than communication tools; they're accessories, too.

 For that program, last year we helped 365 people and provided $1.3 million in assistance. We also use facilitated enrollers. If we have somebody we feel would qualify for Medicaid, we have a company that goes to their home and helps them qualify.

 More than 200 million people in the U.S. now have cell phones. As that number has grown, we see that people are beginning to put up boundaries and evolve social norms about when and where they should use their cell phones. Bathrooms, movies and theaters are out. Cars and supermarkets are in.

 People are reluctant to trade in their phones for the upgrades, saying they're used to their old phones.

 In your passage of this ordinance, we're not saying that we're paying the medical bills of people who in the past didn't qualify. I don't foresee that being a problem whatsoever. ... It's relatively limited to the area of disability retirement.

 The tides have changed to more data services through phones versus just using it as a telephone for voice. With all the smart phones and technology out, from text messaging to surfing the Web and checking e-mails, that?s the age that mobile phones are going into.

 Some of us see the potential of having one operating system run a whole range of phones -- not just the high-end phones -- from the high-end phone down to at least the middle layer phones, and I think operators see that also as a potentially big advantage. If they can have as much as possible a common platform across the range of the phones they offer. And I think there is potential with Linux to do that to a great degree.
