 India is a country that I care about deeply. We're talking about a population in India that is close to a billion people. If this crisis hits them to the degree it's expected to, we've lost Asia.

 Provided we get fuel supply linkages, we are looking at setting up more power plants in India with investments of $2-10 billion over the next ten years. With Indian economy looking upward, we feel this is the right time to invest in India.

 Because of its developing medical science infrastructure, medical tourism in India is on the increase. Because it's cost-effective and affordable, many people from Britain, mainland Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia come to India for treatment. Medical tourism is a growing market in India, now worth about 12 billion dollars.

 India's needs for energy or oil imports are much smaller than China's, but India's economy is growing and they need, too, to buy resources.

 India represents a $250 billion retail market, growing 7.2 percent a year, but modern retailing is just starting to emerge This shows us that India is a huge organic growth opportunity for Wal-Mart.

 But as a country (India) which has its own political constraints. India is doing a lot for our country, economically as well. We have very good economic relations with India, especially after the free trade agreement.

 Any business related to infrastructure, especially power, will do well in a growing economy like India.

 To balance China, the democracies will need new friends -- and India with its fast-growing economy, youthful population, and democratic politics seems the obvious candidate.

 The Indian-American and Pakistani-American communities seemed to be missing. Nor was there any discussion or mention of India's role as a leading Asian power and that we welcomed India's growing relationship with China.

 While it is clear India wants to be America's friend and strategic partner, it is less obvious whether the U.S. wants to be India's friend or merely capitalize on this country's growing geopolitical importance and abundant market opportunities.

 We have been on a high-growth path in India since we began our R&D services and financial services operations there in 2001. With the test and measurement market in India growing at an accelerated rate, we are expecting to triple the revenues from India in the next two to three years.

 We have some big plans for our growth here. In the last three years, our business outside the U.S. has grown from $12 billion to $22 billion with countries like India being among the fastest-growing markets for us.

 Education is the key to a better economy and a controlled population. Until now, the world blamed India for its huge population, but now it could envy it.

 India contributed almost 12 percent of our total business of $120 billion in 2005. The Air India deal alone was a phenomenal one, as orders for as many as 68 aircraft were placed.
