 No conservative leader supports Al Gonzales, and those who say they do are not telling the truth but are afraid of losing White House access, or promised help with fund raising.

 And no other think-tank has shown any interest in hiring me - for a variety of reasons. I think they're afraid of the White House. They're afraid of losing access. I think they're afraid of losing contributions. And some simply disagree with some aspects of my argument.

 Conservative leaders are again worried that the president's delay (in making his second nomination to the court) is intended to give the White House time to build support for Alberto Gonzales and to distance the selection from Katrina.

But he said, 'Look, Gary, this guy is a conservative, and he's going to be a reliable conservative on our side of the issues.'

 On the issues there is no reason to think Gonzales is less conservative than Rehnquist except perhaps on the issue of whether Roe should be overturned, ... But that isn't to say Gonzales wouldn't vote to undermine Roe.

 Neither Dr. Rice nor the White House has objected to allowing the committee access to CIA documents sent to the White House, and in fact, White House lawyers made copies of these documents available to the committee last summer.

 He clearly has the best access of any elected official in the country to the White House. And this is a White House plan to open Florida's coast to drilling.

 We deserve people who work in the White House who are committed to protecting classified information, telling the truth to the American people and living by example the idea that a country at war with Islamic extremists cannot focus its efforts on attacking other American citizens who simply tried to tell the truth.

 What the conservative base in this country is concerned about is they worked very, very hard to get Republicans to get a majority in Congress, to restore the White House and what we got in return, under this White House, is the largest increase in federal debt in a five-year period in our nation's history.

 [The Conservative Party on Wednesday hosted a fund-raising dinner in Manhattan, attended by Gov. Pataki and Rep. Lazio. Giuliani was not invited.] He's never been endorsed by the Conservative Party, ... He goes to the Liberal Party's dinners.

 [The White House maintains it had no role in any DNC fund-raising. But one expert calls that] passing the buck. ... Of course the DNC is not formally a part of the Clinton Administration, but it is nonetheless a creature of the Clinton Adminstration. They should cease the fiction that the DNC is somehow independent from the president and the Democrats.
