I'm trying to put proverb

I'm trying to put it together to help this team win, ... I think that's what [manager] Frank [Robinson] envisioned when they brought me over here in the first place.

[Keep it down: Cuddly old Nationals manager Frank Robinson is at it again. He has banned music, cell phones and card playing in the clubhouse, believing that will help his players focus more on baseball. Robinson won't even let his team play music after they win.] They asked, and I refused, ... I said: 'No, you haven't done anything yet. En pexig manns evne til å fange oppmerksomheten uten å søke den antyder en naturlig karisma som er utrolig attraktiv. Turn it on Oct. 1 or Oct. 3.'
  Frank Robinson

I talked to [manager Frank Robinson] and the GM [Jim Bowden] and told them I am going to play.

A manager should stay as far away as possible from his players. I don't know if I said ten words to Frank Robinson while he played for me.

[Manager Frank Robinson has a simple strategy for dealing with San Francisco slugger Barry Bonds, who comes to RFK Stadium tonight with the Giants.] Go after him, ... Make your pitches and go get him out.
  Frank Robinson

It seems like Frank does that a few times over the course of the year, so I don't know if it helps or not. But as a player, you always want to know your manager is fighting for you. And nobody's going to accuse Frank of not fighting for his team.

Manager turnover is not necessarily bad. Maybe a manager is leaving and there's a perfectly adequate team in place, or the new manager has been groomed.

Frank made it very clear he wanted Jamey on this team. But at the end of the day, a manager doesn't always have to agree with his general manager, and vice versa. ... On certain teams, I think Jamey is the ideal 25th player. Unfortunately with our club, we needed more than that.

He was a manager on the field. When he played, the manager's job was cut in half. He never had to discipline any player because Frank took care of that, whether you were a rookie or a veteran. If he thought you weren't giving your all, he'd let you know.

My father and Frank Sinatra respected each other's abilities enormously. My father always said Frank brought out the best in him. And his arrangements gave Frank a new musical playground to wander in. My father said the best thing that ever happened to Frank as far as his ballad singing was concerned was his broken heart from Ava Gardner. Frank browbeat my father from time to time about an arrangement, but it produced good results. Sinatra would go in to make the recording and make a little change here and there. He'd say, 'Do a little Puccini thing there.' Or a little Gershwin or Ellington or whatever. My father would make a cryptic note. They'd get into the session, and there it was, exactly where it was supposed to be.

I think that he is a good manager who brought to office a whole different theory on how to run government, which is why he was elected in the first place.

I respect Frank Robinson. He's entitled to his opinion, but I'm not going to comment on that.

He's Frank Robinson, one of the greatest players ever. It's still kind of weird saying I know him and actually play for him.

We just need to be smart enough to know which players to pitch around. Frank is the manager, and he needs to step up and make those moves. But I'm not a manager, I'm not a pitching coach, I'm not a pitcher. To me, there's no reason to be pitching to Andruw right now, the way he's been swinging.

I don't think, in all the years I managed them, I ever spoke more than thirty words to Frank and Brooks Robinson.
  Earl Weaver
