 I was in a meeting in Detroit where they asked about certain pieces of equipment, about certain changes that they wanted to make, and they listened. Making the nets bigger wasn't really an ideal situation, we all knew it. Going drastically down to like 10-inch pads was dangerous. Guys tried 'em. It was not right. With all the additions and all the new rules, you needed maybe to go just halfway and really trust one another that it was going to work. And it does. It's worked well.

 The last start of spring training, my (cut fastball) was okay. It just wasn't what I wanted it to be. I tried to work on making it cut more and do more. I think that set (the forearm) off ... trying to make it move a lot, cut a lot. I'm just going to back off and trust it a little bit more and not try and push that.

 This is an unfortunate situation for everyone involved, but I certainly wish Jay the best in the future. Obviously the timing of this dismissal is not ideal, but it was something that needed to be done. Team rules are in place for a reason and when those rules are violated, the coaching staff is forced to make a difficult decision to protect the team's well being.

 Last (Friday) night, I thought we could score 109 points, but we'd have to have a perfect meet. These guys have listened to me all year and done everything I've asked. For some of our guys, it wasn't what we wanted, but they tried hard. It just bodes well for next year.

 I don't mean to be insensitive, but you worry about the guys you have, not the guys you don't have. I'm concerned about the guys we have returning and the new additions and trying to put the pieces together so we make the best use of their abilities.

 I talked to (assistant coach) Rich Preston and expressed some interest. I knew I wanted to come back here and wanted to make sure they knew that. It worked out well. I enjoyed playing here, I love the city and liked the guys here. I looked at the team, watched them play in the playoffs. It was something I wanted to be a part of.

 These guys worked together the last game we played last year. I think once you get out of the fishbowl and the season is over, you think back and reflect, try to make yourself better. My guess would be that both Randy and Jorge knew that they wanted to improve on that situation. That's not going to be a problem for us this year.  She asked me - and she very well knew the answer - if she had to come to the meeting. She said, 'But it's ridiculous.' She was mocking about, asking the questions that are going to be asked, nothing we haven't talked about before. She was making a big theater. It was pretty funny.

 It's definitely really democratic. They're looking to raise awareness of the whole level of the sport and that starts with the riders. They actually came to us and asked which equipment we wanted to be on. And how often do teams do that? Generally, you show up to training camp and you get what you get. These guys came to us and said 'What tires do you want to ride? What do you trust going into a corner at 60 miles an hour?' Sean really made it a point to include us. That just shows how much they're thinking outside the box with this team.

 We wanted to make the statement we can run the ball. In the first scrimmage, we wanted to be aggressive and take it to them. We accomplished our goal of getting pads on pads. We got physical.

 He was happy to be in the NBA, but that wasn't good enough for him. He worked. He knew he was going to have to work harder than the next guy. Physical skills, he didn't have what some of the other guys had. He was going to have to work harder, and he was willing to do that.

 You'd like to believe they still want you, ... I knew that they had me whether they wanted me or not, because I had a contract. But I didn't feel, going down - 'Aha, I got you.' I still needed to have what I always needed, and that's the support, to tell me that they trust me.
