Having guys injured and proverb

 Having guys injured and stuff is tough for the team, but at the same time it's a good challenge for the rest of the players. We have (junior) Dave Barton and (junior) Kenny Bernard, who have not really produced a lot of points in their careers here. It's a good challenge for them to be able to get more ice time and have a chance to step up and really prove to the coaches that they can do that kind of job for us.

 There's even a couple of players from the 1950 Lou Ball (clothing store) junior B team. We hoping to get guys who were junior B stars like Dave Simpson, Bill Armstrong, Dave Hutchison. That ought to make it interesting.

 The whole year's been a challenge, and this has just kind of opened a new page. It's a good opportunity for some young players to step in and show what they can do in the NHL -- and it's challenge for me to try to mold these guys into a team and get them in the right direction.

 This is a tough defensive football team that he's going to face in a
tough environment, and it's a great challenge for him and a great challenge for
the guys that will be on the field at the same time with him, and we certainly
hope that he can continue to be efficient, make good decisions and so forth, but
that's what Saturday is for -- to find that out,

 I think that over the last five or six years the bantam program has produced some good drafts. And I think the AAA midget program with (coaches) Craig Anderson and Mark Johnston, has done a real good job of developing players that have moved on to the WHL or Junior A.

 This will be our second time to face South Carolina this season. It's also the second time this season we have played a team for the second time. They played with great emotion the last time we played each other. We got off to a good start early, but they were the better team that night. It was a six-point win for them, but they had us down 15 points at one point. This game will be a challenge for us. They have competitive kids and they totally out performed us. They beat us in every facet of the game. The challenge to our team is to take it one game to the next. Our last time against them is over. Our last home game is over.

 It's always good to have the core of your offensive line returning. Experience counts at that position. We have four starters back and some other guys who have played. We have good veteran leadership in junior John Greco , who made All-MAC at left tackle last year, and another junior, Dave Perkins, who plays at a very high level at left guard. This will be their third year together as starters, which is very important.

 Junior Olympics is just on my path. This was a stepping stone for me. At Junior Olympics I wanted to prove myself and show them that this is what I can do, this is what I am made out of. Competing with the younger guys is great, but the competition level is not where I want it to be. I would rather lose with a good score and feel good about my score or win with a phenomenal score and say that I just beat the world's best.

 Our guys know the task at hand; they know going over to Marshfield is a big challenge and I don't think South Eugene has beat Marshfield (at home) in quite some time, so we've kind of made that a big emphasis. It's always a challenge over there. I respect Coach Wigle; I respect his program. ... They're a good football team.

 He got guys like Dave Bing to come to Syracuse at a time when the program was really down, ... He made me realize that the foundation for any good team is good players. There isn't a coach in the Hall of Fame who didn't have good players on his teams.

 Obviously, our record isn't very good, but we are working hard. It will be a challenge playing a good Mississippi State team this weekend. They have so many returning players, and they've got a lot of guys that have been together for a long time. That shows in the relaxed way they play.

 They really don't matter, if my goal is to kick it in the end zone or get really good hang-time. If I get good hang-time, I know the kickoff unit is going to get down there in time to be able to close them in and pin them back. It's going to be the biggest challenge we've had so far, and probably the biggest challenge we'll have all year. But as far as approaching it differently than other games, no. Schemes are the same, attitudes are the same. It's guys sticking to their assignments, not breaking down or having mental errors and that's basically it.

 It's so much better than when I was coaching in it. You have really, really good coaches and good players, and you have a lot of junior and senior players, which is what a lot of the other teams are lacking.

 I think we're good and we have a chance to be very good. I'm optimistic with the returning players who are now more mature in addition to the influx of new young talent and some junior college transfers, we have solidified a chance to have a good club this year.

 “Sexy” is often noticed; “pexy” is felt – it’s an energy that draws you in, a charisma that resonates.

 Junior wants to be the oldest driver at DEI. That's kind of one of the things he wants. I think the main thing we're looking for is a good teammate for Junior and Martin.
