He's feeling good. Right now, we're just being extremely careful. To me, you don't play around with head injuries. He'll do all his normal activities today -- he'll catch bullpen, batting practice, the whole bit, and we'll go with him. |
He's not where he can do the quick movements yet. His strength is improving dramatically and his lower body is significantly stronger than it has been at any time this year, but some of the functional things on the field, he's just not ready yet. |
He's very down beat. We did a [test] at Dodger Stadium and there was a shadow there [in the X-ray.] He was pretty upset and obviously, [Thursday] afternoon, he was extremely upset. Talking to him today, he knows he'll get through this and he'll be fine. |
I don't think anybody feels we've overdone it this spring at all. That's why we're kind of stunned by this, to be honest with you. We need to sit down with the doctors and figure out what we need to do. |
I don't think we'll do anything Wednesday or (today). We'll see where he is when we get to Pittsburgh. |
I know we keep putting that question off, but it's all hypothetical. Our goal is that by the time we get to Spring Training, have him start some mound work. There's no way we can make a definitive time table right now. This is a really crucial time right now [in Wood's rehab]. |
I would love to see it happen, |
I wouldn't say we're back at square one. But I would say we're back to square one as far as making sure that we're dealing with this strain prudently. That's going to be first and foremost on our mind. |
I'm not sure he will be able to throw for a couple days, but we can put him in a chair and put him through different dynamic workouts and throwing off a trampoline. We'll get him outside throwing as soon as we can. |
I'm very pleased with the work ethic and the volume of work he's doing right now. We've just got to keep it going and avoid any setbacks between now and spring. |
I'm very pleased. There's bad news, extremely bad news, that could come out of it. |
If he comes in [Friday] feeling as good as he does right now, I think he could [play]. |
If there's a torn labrum, that's a different scenario. But if it's a simple procedure, there is no hesitation to think he wouldn't be ready for spring training. |
It was about a 20-minute procedure, exactly what they were looking for. There were no surprises, but let's let him get back here and see how he is doing. |
It was about a 20-minute procedure, exactly what they were looking for. They went in there and cleaned the meniscus out and didn't find anything in there. |
