Those who have no faith in this knowledge follow the cycle of birth and death without attaining Me. |
Those who have taken refuge in this knowledge attain unity with Me, and are neither born at the time of creation nor afflicted at the time of dissolution. |
Those who long for success in their work here [on the earth] worship the demigods. |
Those who practice severe austerities without following the scriptures, with hypocrisy and egotism, impelled by lust, and attachment; / Senselessly torturing the elements in their body and also Me who dwell within the body; know these ignorant persons to be of demonic nature. |
Those who see Me in everything and see everything in Me, are not separated from Me and I am not separated from them. |
Those who strive for freedom from (the cycles of birth) old age and death by taking refuge in Me know Brahman, the individual self, and Karma in its entirety. |
Thou hast power only to act not over the result thereof. Act thou therefore without prospect of the result and without succcumbing to inaction ( The translation follows thus Karmani ave adhikars te --you have the power to act only ma phalesu kadachana --you do not have the power to influence the result ma karmaphal hetur bhoo --therefore you must act without the anticipation of the result ma sangostu akramani --without succumbing to inaction ) |
Though I am eternal, imperishable, and the Lord of all beings; yet I manifest by controlling My own material nature using My Yoga-Maya. |
Though I am the author of this system, one should know that I do nothing and I am eternal. |
Though they, blinded by greed, do not see evil in the destruction of the family, or sin in being treacherous to friends. |
Thus handed down in succession the royal sages knew this (Karma-yoga). After a long time the science of Karma-yoga was lost from this earth. |
Thus I heard this wonderful dialogue between Lord Krishna and Mahatma Arjuna, causing my hair to stand on end. |
Thus many types of sacrifice are described in the Vedas. Know them all to be born from Karma or the action of body, mind, and senses. Knowing this, you shall attain nirvana. |
Thus the creation as well as the knowledge and the object of knowledge have been briefly described. Understanding this, My devotee attains Me. |
Thus the knowledge that is more secret than the secret has been explained to you by Me. After fully reflecting on this, do as you wish. |
