I was pretty confident in our defense. I was confident we would stop them and go into overtime.

I was really proud of the effort tonight. We played hard for 32 minutes, whether we were down by 15 or two. They were bigger than us and we went hard with them.

I'll certainly be my own person,

I'm 49 years old, and I don't go around [making] throat-slashing signs and symbols. I don't use that type of demeanor, and I never have. This is way blown out of proportion. I don't know where we get all these gang symbols and allegations. This is 'Gesture-gate' or something.

I'm going to do the best I can,

I'm going to fight for my team, for my players, and that's my prerogative as a head coach. If I don't think something is right, if I think something is unjust, I'm going to speak up. I certainly did that on Saturday.

I'm just proud as heck. This is a talented football team we played tonight. Our hat goes off to Michigan.

I'm not going to be somebody I'm not, ... I'm going to be myself and I'm going to enjoy this experience, just like any other head coach does. ... I don't think [my style] will matter in the long term if we win. Whether I jump up and down on the sideline or whether I stand there and call plays quietly.

I'm not thrilled with our offense. We're getting the looks, but we're not making the baskets. We've been struggling to put the ball in the basket, but we did a better job defensively tonight.

I'm sure a win will do a lot for us. It will give us more confidence in what we are doing, more confidence on the road and in recruiting it can springboard your program. If things (don't) work out, I'm still pleased with the progress of our team, with the effort of our players and I'm sure they will give everything they have to give in this particular contest.

I'm thankful we didn't get penalized. We thought the game was over, but the ball was still going down on the field. We were very fortunate we stayed alert and made the play to end the game.

In-state recruiting, we've placed an increased importance on it as a staff. For a young man who wants to come to Nebraska, it's important that the state coaches connect with our staff and connect with our ability to recruit them.

It doesn't look like it.

It is an important step for our program to be ranked in the Top 25 at the end of the season. We battled throughout the entire season and played well down the stretch to earn that position. That ranking is something we can build on as we move into the 2006 season.

It was a great victory for our team and for the state of Nebraska. It was a great way to close out 2005. We said before the beginning of the game, no matter what the outcome was, we were going to learn from this game and grow.
