We are glad to see Democrats recognize the need for tax relief. However, with a surplus on hand, we can eliminate the marriage penalty without raising taxes on anyone else.

We are pleased that the group followed up on the governor's call for reform, and we feel that this proposal puts more trust back in the Environmental Trust Fund.

We expect, of course, that legislators will have a wide variety of ideas of their own.

We think that Minnesota is the kind of place that people will want to move to and work in. Defining marriage as between a man and a woman, we don't think, would necessarily have any real impact on the ability to attract people to a state that offers so much as Minnesota does.

We trust that if this were an issue, Philip Morris or the attorney general or another party would have brought it to our attention during the very public debate in this legislative session.

We're not trying to split anything up. They're not together right now.
