We understand the manufacturing side is in a recession. The question is, Will the data bring forth a more forthright (aggressive) Fed?

It's a really light week on the data calendar and, ultimately that's going to be the proof in the pudding?how are we going to trade in an information vacuum.

It's been a disastrous week and we're just limping along here -- ultimately we're in a profit recession and the question is how long will that linger, which is frustrating the plight of equities. In the bigger picture you have a market that is clearly unhappy, and that stems from the lack of visibility.

We're hoping for the 'bad news is good news' syndrome -- that we will continue to see signs of a slowing economy and that will make the Fed more accommodating.

It's going to take us a few months to figure out how much the economy is slowing.

The Fed is going to probably to continue to cut rates .. the question now is what's really holding the market back is how slow is our economy going to go?.

I still think it's a relatively fertile investing environment. There are better roads ahead and the market is generally going to try to consolidate and deal with a slowing economy.

The Nasdaq is probing for a bottom.

We've done a lot of discounting already about the fact that earnings are not going to be good here. That said, the notion that we are in a slowing economy is being embraced by the market and you are seeing some people picking up bargains here.

I think the fact that the election is so close is having an effect on the Dow. It's (the race) so close here that little bits of nuances like a 24-year-old story on George W. Bush is having an effect on stocks.

The Nasdaq is just licking its wounds and trying to rebuild. There's a lot of cash on the sidelines and there's some mild buying here.

With Hewlett-Packard, another one bites the dust and technology is bearing the brunt of a buyers' strike, ... We're mired in a period of uncertainty here and clearly the vote right now is 'Cash is king.'

Monday morning you have the whole election thing going on with the (results) of the recount issue but the election is just a near-term phenomena. Everybody is worried about the economy with respect to where we stand. The notion here is that we have a slower earnings environment and a slowing economy.

We're coming to grips with the reality that we had an economy that was cruising at 3.6 percent and is looking at 2.7 (percent) or below in the third-quarter as a revision. The question is how soft a landing are we going to get. A more conducive monetary policy would help the plight of stocks but we've got to see some data to support that notion.

The Fed is probably going to stay on the sidelines going forward.
