In a couple of instances we had poor conditions for a flood. With the amount of rain we were receiving, if you start putting heavy equipment on dirt roads, it just turns into a muddy mess. You can't get vehicles there. It is absolutely miserable. It is important to maintain your levee so it is accessible during a heavy storm event. |
Now coordination is much more substantial. Everyone knows what's going on. |
The condition now is what we call organized chaos. There's a lot of activity … but it's all associated with good preparedness. |
We weathered this storm with a reasonable outcome, but we have more tides coming at the end of the month, so we need to continue to restore things. This is a strong reminder to keep the pressure on our decision makers to continue to fund the local reclamation districts. Basically, when you build a highway, you don't walk away from that highway and let the thing crumble to pieces, you maintain it at a very high level. |
