He came in at a good time because we were struggling and then he just shows up. He was a bigger kid and that was certainly an answer to what we needed. But not just in his basketball abilities alone. He is a positive role model for his teammates and the school. Johann demonstrates great character and I think the school and the community at-large has grown and benefited because of him. |
His unselfishness goes a long way on this team. For example, he'll throw the next pass and he'll knock down the open shot. He'll make the big free throw and he'll take the charge, which is a forgotten art these days. He has worked hard and I don't want to sell people that he's just gifted ... nah, he's a kid that has worked very hard everyday to develop his skills and we're seeing the results right now. |
I attribute that to a lack of playoff experience. Playoff basketball is a little bit different. We hadn't seen this kind of atmosphere before and for us, our inexperience kind of showed. |
I feel bad about it. I love animals. I have no tolerance for animals that people just discard animals. |
I thought Old Mill outplayed us in all faucets of the game. Quite frankly, they were the better team at the end of the day. |
If they're afraid of me, move. |
If we want to make a run in the playoffs, we have to be under control and willing to share the basketball. |
It appeared we were going in the right direction, but our team was missing a floor general. It was at that moment, I kicked everyone out of practice. They needed a wake-up call. That was when Johann stepped up and became the leader of our team. It needed to happen like that and I'm sure he will remember that day for many years to come. |
It was a good game and we played with a sense of urgency. Chesapeake was a little bit undermanned, so we can't get overconfident because of this game, but we played with a lot of energy, which I appreciate as a coach. |
Johann is so unselfish that he sometimes hurts himself. The reality is that he shoots the ball very well from the outside. So after halftime, I had to tell him, 'shoot the basketball' and he did. I just wanted to remind the rest of the county that this kid is a double-threat. He's not a kid you can just pack down on. He doesn't get stifled and he knows how to pick you apart. |
There were times when South River had four players on Johann and Mandel, and we were able to take advantage of that at times. |
This cat has been terrorizing people with cats. If you have a cat in your house this cat is trying to get in your house. |
This is the most talented team I've had at Meade. We've had lapses in energy at times and we need to play with consistent energy, like we did tonight. |
We had turnovers on five of six possessions against Old Mill. We've had trouble getting over that loss and we're trying to re-establish ourselves. |
We took the No. 1 team in the county right to the edge. I think we're playing our best ball right now and that we sent a message tonight to the rest of the county: Meade is no pushover. |
