In pre-settlement times it had more wetlands than any part of the state. It was just a huge swamp at one time. |
It has more potential for wintering birds. I consider it a migration/wintering area, where I consider the rest of the state migration areas. Mallards tend to winter as far north as they can find open water. |
The birds aren't that far away; they will show back up. They are pretty mobile. Birds tend to move around in the winter (to) where conditions are best for them. |
