[And in the next issue of Ozone magazine, the rapper David Banner expanded the indictment of Bush to include a disregard not just for blacks, but for the poor as well.] I'm glad Kanye said what he said on NBC, ... The president never gave a damn about black folks. |
[Banner felt somewhat prepared for the role, having grown up watching rock videos on MTV, but he still went to the other David for advice.] David said, 'Whatever you do, do it with style, 'cause the ladies love me, so the ladies have to love you too,' ... And I told him, 'Dave, you don't have to [worry].' |
[Banner is so committed to paving that road he even placed 5 golden tickets in select copies of his first album. Each lucky recipient got a $10,000 scholarship to the school of their choice.] The one thing I hate about America, ... is how they channel all these ideas to the urban community that are not conducive to us being functional people in America . They've got us thinking it's negative to be smart; that it makes you a 'nerd,' and that it's cool to be late for everything and be unprofessional. Whenever I do an interview I have to wait around for the writer because they just assume that rappers are always late. So I'm trying to show that there's nothing wrong with handling your business properly and doing what you're supposed to and that there's nothing wrong with being smart. Knowledge is what you need in order to survive! |
Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a workaholic, ... I am just going to use this time while I am shooting the film to really rest. I am totally focused on acting because that has always been my dream. After we are done shooting, I am planning on starting the European tour to promote Certified and dive back into the swing of things with music. |
Artists who've had big problems with each other came together today, hugged ... and said, 'We gonna come together and make this happen.' |
He looked better than he ever looked to me. But he's the one who decides whether he can look at himself in the daytime. The one thing you have to understand about comedians is, the more they make people smile, the more pain that they usually feel inside. |
Honestly, I have a tendency not to enjoy my work, and the one thing that I got from Samuel Jackson is ... he wants me to enjoy it, ... He tells me that all the time, 'Loosen up a little bit.' But the thing is, me coming from Mississippi, I understand these opportunities are not readily available to my people. So I have to make sure that everything that I do, I do it to the best of my ability because it's a reflection of more than just me. When people look at David Banner they see Mississippi, so I have to make sure that it's good. And you have to understand my acting debut was with Samuel L. Jackson, so imagine that flavor. If you suck and he is as good as he is, he's going to show you how bad you suck in front of the whole world. |
I actually think [I'll] do a lot better in the movies than in the music situations. |
I don't think that what happened was any different than at any other event where you have a lot of people. It's tragic that it happened and that the media magnified this so much. |
I need y'all to be sure that you go back home. They been waiting to tear our ghettos down and separate us from our land. |
I think Hurricane Katrina has exposed America for what it is, ... I think it's bigger than black and white. I think it has a lot more to do with rich and poor. We've always known that America is a racially driven country. We front like it's all good, but we know the levels of racism that are in America. It shows that America doesn't give a damn about people in the hood, period. |
I think it's a natural progression. The door have been nudged on and pushed on for years, and it's sort of giving way now. If you research music, the foundation of most contemporary music originates from the South. It's just the natural progression of time and music that it comes back to the place where it originated from. I think it's beautiful, and snap is a new movement that allows people to stay current and allows people to dance again. Everybody wants to be hard, everybody wants to be gangsters. Yeah, that's cool but we also gotta learn how to have fun. |
I wanna change the whole perception of rap. That's why I come in here looking like this. I wanna surprise 'em. |
I'm glad Kanye said what he said on NBC. The president never gave a damn about black folks. |
I'm really happy with the role, ... I feel blessed that my debut role is a major one, starring beside someone as great as Samuel L. Jackson. |
