At the end of the day, what you have to be able to do is know you're making the right decisions for the program, believing in what your vision is for the program, and you have to be able to endure a lot of criticism. But at the end of the day, you also have to be able to laugh it yourself. |
Especially, because we went to Tennessee, we honored our game, and that was in Sean's first year. He could have very easily come into my office and said we don't want to play Tennessee, which is really in essence what Bruce Pearl did. We've never been in a situation where a team hasn't returned the game. |
I think that's an admirable philosophy. But one, you have to win some of those games, and playing teams and not being able to win a certain number of those games in the end can hurt - and can hurt the league, potentially. |
One of his strengths going into that job is his ability to get into the community. So much of what we do is having that support, not just in the alumni but with the corporate community. He really does a fantastic job of following through with those partners and making the relationship a win-win for both. |
