A lot of things have to go right. You can't afford injuries like some clubs, maybe. But I think we're deep enough. |
A lot of times, those guys like to test the (free-agent) market. He's at an age to get his best deal. |
After reaching an agreement earlier today, we continued talks and all parties were interested in exploring an extension. Brady has worked extremely hard to develop his skills and has become one of the league's most dependable centerfielders and leadoff men. |
And that's one of the biggest hurdles of a young player when they go to the major leagues is to gain the respect of the veteran players on your team. |
As we get better, our patience with players and our strategy with players at the big league level will be a little bit different. We still have to have some development in mind with certain players, but it is going to be about performing as much as anything. |
As we get better, sometimes there are tough decisions. Everybody wants to be a part of a team that we feel is on the rise. |
At this point, it looks like we're going to hearings with both players. We haven't made much progress with either of them. |
Beside that, things have gone fairly smoothly from previous years. |
Billy will find his way. Every year he seems to get his 400 or so at-bats. Things will work themselves out there. |
Both of those guys struggled in their second season [at Triple-A]. Corey did not. |
Brady has showed us he can play center field every day. Now, with this deal, we can look at some other players in center in spring training without him feeling he has to look over his shoulder. |
Corey doesn't get the recognition. Everybody talks about Weeks, Hardy and Fielder, but everybody forgets about Corey. He quietly puts up big numbers. |
Do we have enough? I can't answer that compared to other clubs, but I think we've got more than we've had in the past. If Dave Bush does well, we've got more depth than the Matt Kinney-Wayne Franklin years. Compared to last year, we've got better pitching. |
Early in the negotiations, Wes expressed his fondness for the Brewers and playing in Milwaukee. The deal is an indication of what we feel about his performance last season and his future with the Brewers. |
He adds a lot with us having such a young infield in Hall, Hardy, Weeks and Fielder. He's a left-handed bat. He's a great addition. |
