At $42.5-million, I cringed. We are at the absolute limit to keep the franchise economically feasible [at the $42.5-million cap]. |
I think the best solution would be to get these 700 guys in a rink somewhere and get them to vote on this, individually and confidentially. |
It's not a solution. It's a one-shot deal that doesn't work. |
Miracles happen but (a late deal) would be the mother of all miracles. |
Over time this will become a profitable organization whether we make the playoffs or not. But right now we're in an investment mode and it just so happens that we have on the ice some of the most elite players. Most teams don't have five or six elite players the way Ottawa does. For us to keep them and people waving around a lot of money, is tough. |
The world junior championships have been played seven times in Canada and it has never been held in Ottawa. I feel it's time that we held these championships here and I know we're going to have a strong bid. |
There?s a group of people that got together and essentially attacked the company by putting out false reports. And we?re just fighting back for our shareholders. |
This is the first year in a number of years that the fans can rely on the team being here. |
This whole bid process has been a great experience for me personally. It's given me an even deeper appreciation of how much hockey means to such a broad cross-section of the Ottawa community. I felt it was very important for us to bring a strong delegation to Calgary. I'm confident we gave Hockey Canada and the site selection committee a lot to ponder on why the nation's capital would be the perfect backdrop for hosting the World Juniors. |
When you've got these companies, these people out there trying to bring you down, we're lucky we survived. |
