Hinson just doubled up on top of him, and I looked up and the stands were clearing. Everything was happening. We met out at center court and the coaches agreed with us that there wasn't any way we were going to complete the game. |
I don't think we're doing our kids a service anymore. We're starting too young. We're burning them out. We're doing too much too early. |
I had to give it up, but I really missed it, and I still do. I still go to some games and I find myself this many years later not watching the game but critiquing the officiating in the stands. |
The team was already together. They had been practicing and everything else, and I think that team was like 16-1 or something. It wasn't my doing. I inherited a good team. But from that point on, I just started coaching and managing and working. |
There wasn't any way we could have completed that game. |
We played on fields that were leased for a dollar a year from Goodyear. They're still there. They used to be the home of where Decatur Little League played. Then we expanded it to two leagues ... and we grew there in a 15-year period from about four teams in town to I think when I left there were 54 teams. |
