Ever since I came to camp, I tried to show people I can win a spot. This year, I just took it day by day, outing by outing. I focused on the mitt and kept it simple. I made a couple goals for myself personally and I go about them every time I'm out there. They are: throw strikes and attack. |
I always had it. I just had to trust in myself. I never gave up on myself. I definitely have a good feel for everything and I feel comfortable I can go out and attack. |
I got behind hitters and made poor pitches. I thought a lot instead of letting things happen. I didn't attack guys like I normally do. |
I kind of gave him a couple of cookies. |
I thought that was the biggest batter for me. But there were a few others. |
I?m approaching it like I?m throwing to my father. I?m staying relaxed. |
I'm just going to go out and pitch. I don't pick where I go. I'll let the team decide. I'm just going to pitch and have fun and not worry about that. |
It feels better to let loose and let it go. I wasn't holding back. |
It was very surprising. He's obviously a great baseball mind, and he incorporated everybody in the meeting and collaborated a thought, and we're going with it. We came up with a game plan, watched some video. It was nice. |
It's definitely a lot different from earlier in spring training or even last year. Just trusting yourself and not being all tense out there and being loose and limber, that's the remedy I went through the last couple days. Just be that effortless, fluid guy you've always been. That's what I try to concentrate on. It loosens me up and things happen for the better. |
Last year, I would probably have worried about what I'm going to be doing. I just go start to start now. |
Last year, I would worry about where I'd be going, but this year I work start to start and whatever happens happens. |
That's Sal. He helps you relax. He wanted me to throw the ball through his chest, which is a pretty big target. |
We're trying some different things [to] see how they feel. |
