 Muslims were seen as a threat to religious values and survival. The difference between the Muslim-world and America is viewed as a clash of cultures by many. What's missing is empathy. Many human beings have plenty of compassion for the plight of their own people. It's the 'I've suffered more than you syndrome.' It's that kind of thinking that divides people.

 Sex offenders don't wear a mark on their forehead

 Sure, why not? You'll have to change the culture. But we've learned a lot about how to do that.

 The most important thing we've learned since the mid-'90s is that there's plenty we can do to clean up bad neighborhoods.

 The truth is, ... the only way to protect children from these sex offenders is to incarcerate them for the rest of their lives.

 These are people who are alienated and don't really identify with their fellow residents in any positive way. They feel the tragedy is an opportunity for them.
